WWII Aircraft still useful by
Charles Talleyrand
Suppose someone was willing to give a modern air force a bunch of
planes from WWII. The Luftwaffe can have several hundred
Fw-190s. The US can have a pile of Catalina's (or DC-3s). The British can
have as many Mosquitoes as they want.
Are there any WWII aircraft that could still be useful in a...

Speed of design of airplanes. by
Charles Gray
Here's a question-- why does it take so much longer to design and
protoytpe a plane today? Between the JSF and F-22 literally decades
have gone by.
Now, granted, the JSF is orders of magnitude more complex then say
an F-4...but on the other hand, CAD/CAM tools exist that give design
and...

Mother Russia closer to develop an ABM system by
Alejandro Magno
Russia is actually much closer to developing an effective
anti-ballistic missile defense system than the United States. Russia's
latest S-400 surface-to-air missile system is currently in its final
stage of testing and is due to enter service in 2001-2002. The S-400
is the only SAM system in the...

German forward swept wing WWII fighter projects. by
Charles Gray
Here's a question-- the Germans had several forward swept wing designs
in the works during WWII.
However, I recall reading that even in the 1980's the strain on the
airframe made such a design very difficult to successfully carry off.
That being the case, was there any realistic chance that such...

An aeroplane that can stand still in air by
Chandresh Prakash
Hi,
Is there an aeroplane that can stand still in mid-air ?
I used to think that SU - 30 could do it. Is that true ?
I found no evidence on a google web/groups search.
Thanks,
Chandresh

Power on the flareout. by
ArtKramr
The B-26 Martin Marauder needed power poured on to execute the flareout. If
that was not done, the aicraft would not pull up and just plow into the ground.
