Hobbs by
Larry R[_2_]
Ok, I am *almost* embarrased to ask this question, but here goes. Do
Hobbs meters ever "go bad"? No, this isn't a joke!
I recently took a flight from KLOU-KWWD-KLOU. It was IFR and I wrote
down my off and land times, which coorespond with the FlightTracking
times within a couple of minutes.
The...

Price Drop in Garmin Portables by
Marco Leon
The 496 is now down to $2,395 for many stores. Since the vendors need an OK
from Garmin to do this, it may mean a new one on the horizon... Anyone know
more info?

Blackhawk v Huey by
john smith
A flight of three UH-60 Blackhawks performed a flyover this morning
during our local Independence Day parade.
It struck me that they were able to get within one-half mile
(thereabouts) before I noticed the "helicopter" sound.
I had noticed this previously, but had filed it away.
I then got to...

$5.64 for a gallon of "Chateau de AvGas" by
Jay Honeck
Just returned from our annual father-son camping trip. This year we
camped for a few days out on Washington Island (2P2) Airport, which is
that spot of land that the Door Peninsula (in Wisconsin) points to,
out in Lake Michigan. (Green Bay is formed by the peninsula jutting
out into the...

What a sight...and what a sound by
Roger (K8RI)
I thought I'd posted this to RAP but apparently it didn't show up. So
if it shows up twice...
I had been working out in the shop this evening and was beginning to
think about going into the house when I heard what sounded like a
helicopter in the distance, but as it got louder the beat was way...

playing nice with Air Force One by
Cubdriver
I've been grounded by a mighty TFR that began at 3pm yesterday.
Evidently Bush 43 is having a weekend at Bush 41's house in
Kennebunkport. So I took my binocs and my radio down to the dock and
waited for the various Ones to do their thing.
First there was a helo sweep of Great Bay, I think by the...

Window Blowout by
Ben Jeffrey
SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- A critical-care nurse aboard an air ambulance
fought to keep from being sucked out of the cabin when a window blew out of
the aircraft at 20,000 feet.
"I guess it wasn't my day to die," said Chris Fogg, who lives near Boise,
Idaho, and was flying with a patient and...

Airplane shot down in Colombia by
Aviv Hod[_2_]
Summary: US and Colombian agents shoot down a smuggling suspect:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=063_1182300981
This is shocking to me on so many levels - extrajudicial execution on
tape with Americans involved. Drug smuggling is a problem and all, but
this isn't like a police car chase where...

What an amazing flight... by
Jay Honeck
Just got back from the most amazing flight of my life. I was lucky
enough to fly in the front hole of a 1929 Travel Air biplane, as we
flew formation with a 1941 Stearman and a replica 1932 P6E Hawk
biplane.
The sights, the smells, the sounds -- all are indelibly imprinted in
my mind, hopefully...

Flight planning web site by
Andrew Gideon
Once Upon A Time...I'd tried out a web site that did flight planning. I
don't remember many details, but I do recall that it did a decent job in
several ways that I liked, including building a "book" of the flight's
charts (so one could just turn pages rather than refolding sectionals or
such).
I...
