OT a bit - fly to the moon or Mars? by
ManhattanMan
Why?
The first race to the moon, and that's exactly what it was, got us braggin
rights, a few hundred pounds of rocks, some great technology for terrestrial
applications (that probably could have evolved anyway), and??
I'm old enough to have watched it all on the boob tube as an adult, and was...

Proping Question by
Doug Palmer
Several pilots found themselves in a debate at our field yesterday. The
issue is weather it is safer to move the propeller on a (parked) aircraft in
the direction of usual engine rotation, or opposite usual rotation. This is
assuming that the propeller needs to move for some reason.
The...

It would sure be nice if they'd email (if you subscribed) when the
TFR's are updated. AOPA does this, but I didn't get this one for some
reason...

Apartment dweller sues Cory Lidle's estate for destroying his apartment by
Peter R.
A couple of weeks ago there was a thread about Cory Lidle's widow suing
Cirrus and a bunch of other deep pockets for damages after her husband's
Cirrus SR20 attempted to perform a 180 degree turn over the East River and
slammed into an apartment building on the east side of Manhattan, killing...

Tacoma, WA - Narrows airport might be closing by
steve[_1_]
I just heard that they are considering closing down the Tacoma Narrows
Airport (KTIW) due to zoning and funding issues. This airport has been there
for a long time and it is a beautiful place to fly to. It would be a shame
to see it shut down. The other nearest airports to the Tacoma/ Gig Harbor...

Free Weather (METAR, TAF) on your mobile phone by
ppl
I have seen that a lot of people is looking for a way (far from a nice
PC) to get a real time weather update... probably on your cell phone.
When I started flying, I often found myself far from a weather
forecaster or a PC to get the METARs and TAFs for the aerodromes I
needed, so I made a little...

Ohio Midair by

Everyone needs to remember that Andrew's recording is not real time,
minute by minute. It only records when the squelch is broken, thus for
the one hour elapsed time, the actual transmission time total is about
15 minutes of recorded transmissions.

A hot start question by
chris[_1_]
Hi peoples.. Hopefully this is an easy one for you experts out
there...
Hot start on a fuel injected Lycoming commonly seems to call for
leaving the mixture at ICO and cranking. Bearing in mind the engine
stopped because the mixture was set to ICO, and if you're then not
moving the mixture...

Thanks to this group...again by
Jay Honeck
Some of you have emailed me to ask about my (relative) absence from
this group of late. I haven't posted much about flying since Sun N
Fun, simply because we haven't done any. Why?
See: http://www.alexisparkinn.com/new_lobby!.htm
After five years (yes, it's been FIVE YEARS this August!) in...

AvWeb has posted the link to Andrew's audio file website in their

Good luck Andrew. Time to think about placing some Google ads and making
some money while you can. :-)
In my posting of the transcript, the missing words from the Cessna
transmission to replace the ? are...

looking for a video by
mike regish
I saw a video some time back that was 3 or 4 WWII fighters skimming their
wheels along some glassy smooth water at about 300 knots in formation. I've
looked all over but can't find it anywhere.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Committee Vote on User Fees by
Orval Fairbairn
I got this from AOPA tonight. The Nelson-Sununu amendment to kill the
$25 per flight for turbine-powered aircraft was killed 12-11.
All the usual suspects voted against it:
"We lost a close vote by a margin of 12 to 11 on the Nelson/Sununu
amendment that would have struck the $25 air traffic...

Unknown landing strip by

A buddy of mine has a landing strip on his farm and he's trying to
find out what it's previous identifier was. Apparently his wife's
grandfather was an enthusiast and had it registered many many years
ago. I haven't been able to find anything in the CAP.
Any suggestions on where I could find...
