Boundaries between Approach/Departure and Center by
Mxsmanic
What determines the boundaries between airspace managed by an en-route
ATC center and an approach or departure center? I don't see any clear
indication of which is which on sectionals. There are boxes saying
who to contact for approach, but nothing that shows where the handoffs
between terminal...

commercial airline loss of power on takeoff by
Adam Sandler
Asking this question to the group because I think the explanation given
is fishy. I was recently a passenger on a S80. On the takeoff roll,
the right engine lost power and the pilot aborted the takeoff.
It was partly cloudy, about 30 degrees outside with a 15 mph crosswind.
After the abort, the...

B767 thrust by
Kevin
According to the type certificate data sheet for the Pratt and Whitney
62,000 thrust engine, the max continuous thrust should be ~52,000 and
the 62,000 for 5 minutes max. The question is, does N1 @ 100% produce
52,000 lbs of thrust or does it produce 60,200 lbs of thurst? Any
airline pilots out...

OEM version of Lightspeed QFR X/C ANR headset by
M
I remember seeing someone mentioning an OEM version of Lightspeed QFR
X/C ANR headset that costs quite a bit less. Any idea where I can get
them? I have one right now and like to get another one to replace the
other passive headset for my wife.
Thanks!

Are flight engineers qualified to fly? by
Mxsmanic
In older aircraft that require flight engineers, are these flight
engineers qualified to fly the aircraft in an emergency? If not, what
qualifications do they have? Do they have to be pilots (i.e.,
licensed)?

Some Rumors... by
Dan
All,
I heard this weekend some rumors that Columbia is working on known-ice
certification for the E-vade system on the 400, and that Diamond will
be producing a DA42 with larger diesel engines. Anyone know anything
more about either of these?

Carb Heat by
vlado
Is the need for carb heat affected by ambient humidity? In low
humidity conditions, and also at very low temperatures, is the
propensity for carb ice reduced thus 'eliminating' the need for carb
heat?
Just curious what the discussion might bring.
Thx.

"Requesting lower" by
Tony
So here's the deal. You're at 11,000 feet doing say 120 knots over the
ground and your sea level destination is 100 nm ahead. It's late, ATC
is quiet, very little traffic, CAVU, you're pretty sure centger will
give you whatever you ask for.
What would you ask for?
I figure something like this: If...
