GA friendly airport in NYC by [email protected]
Hello, I'm thinking about taking a trip to NYC for a weekend... I've never been so I would be looking to do some touristy stuff. I am wondering where the best (closest to transportation, no landing fees, good service) airport would be for me to go to? Any help would be appreciated! -Dico

Fuel price finally dropped in PNW by M
Finally, it came. I fuel up today at Arlington, WA with $2.68/gal autofuel. The autofuel was $3.31 only two weeks ago at that airport. Avgas was $4.01 at AWO but $3.84 at Paine field. This is back to the level of early spring 2006 when the autofuel was $2.62 at AWO for a long time. Pacific NW...

Caught off guard by Wizard of Draws
The wife and I have just returned from a week's vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. With Kitty Hawk was just up the road, you know where we ended up one day... I thought we would stop so I could pay my respects and have a look around, but I had no idea that it would have the effect on...

New to the Newsgroup by CareBear
I've been lurking here since May of this year and thought I'd go ahead and announce myself. I started flying in May and am now on my third dual xc. Flying has always been a dream of mine and I decided to "make it happen" since I'm getting much older (55, I don't plan on becoming a career...

Accident Prone Pilots by Marco Leon
Interesting article on Aviation Week's website. http://www.aviationnow.com/avnow/news/channel_busav_story.jsp?id=news/accid0906.xml I've always maintained that GA's accident record could be significantly improved if there was an effective "wash-out" process that removed the "sludge" at the bottom...

Logging time as a CFI by buttman
I have my CFI right now, and I'm flying with a CFII in preparation for my CFII checkride. Do I log that time as Dual Received, as well as PIC, or just PIC, or just Dual Received? Also, as a CFI should I be logging the time I fly with my MEI for my multi rating as PIC, or is that stretching...

Is every touchdown a stall? by Mxsmanic
Listening to the radio transmissions of a VFR pilot who had a panic attack in a cloud of IMC, I heard him mention to a controller that "the stall horn goes off every time I land." I thought that was bizarre. Is a touchdown supposed to be a stall? My stall horn doesn't sound on landing. When I...

Jet extreme turns over SJ downtown approach to SJC? by Brad Allen
A few minutes before PDT Fri 2006-09-29T20:00-0700 I was in San Jose coming up US-Ca-I-280 from US-101 towards 7th St and Ca-87 exits, and saw a large airplane (commercial passenger airline sized, although could have been fedex?) take a hard turn (I am pretty sure a turn to the right), somewhere...

Fuel tank balance by Mxsmanic
Is there any reason to drain fuel tanks in any way other than symmetrically in normal flight? I notice that most aircraft have complex controls for fuel flow from the tanks, and I wonder if there are things one is suppposed to do during normal flight, or if this is just to provide for possible...

Jay Honeck must get an instrument rating by Margy Natalie
The subject line says it all. I declare from this moment on all rec.aviators should, on all possible occasions, pick on Jay Honeck for not having an instrument rating. Margy

2nd Lesson by Crash Lander
Well, just got back from my 2nd flying lesson. It was a perfectly clear day. Not a cloud to be seen. A little blustery on the ground, but nothing major. Today, I did my first take-off. I wasn't expecting it to be such an intense experience. It was much twitchier than I was expecting. Not really...

Rudder for final runway alignment (?) by Mxsmanic
Is it cheating/advisable/forbidden/useless to use the rudder alone to accomplish the very last seconds of runway alignment on landing? As I approach the landing point it becomes very difficult to turn in the usual way just to improve alignment. Using rudder alone can line me up perfectly right...
