C-182 pattern help by SilkB
I am just starting to fly a C-182T and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for the settings in the pattern/approach. I have done most of my hours on C172, but when transitioning to C182 I noticed that it's hard to get this plane down in the pattern. I enter the pattern at 17"MP (to slow down)...

flying more than one make and model? by [email protected]
Hi guys, another question. What are the most commonly-held views on flying more than one make and model of aircraft? Take the example of a 172 and a Warrior. Clearly the aircraft are different and the best solution would be to fly only one make and model, but the reality of plane rental is that...

747 Clock Time Base Question by [email protected]
I'm trying to run a Haydon slave clock from a 747 on a bench but I don't have the pulse generating time base. I suspect the pulse voltage is 24 VDC. Can anyone tell me the pulse frequency of this clock system used in the older 747s? Thanks Tom

Can some explain "cabin glare" to me? by Michael
Hi, I'm writing a song lyric that refers to "cabin glare". But I'm not exactly sure what it is and I can't find a single definition on the internet. I want to be sure I'm using it correctly. Can someone share a brief description/definition? Thank you.

Can a Sport Instructor give a tailwheel signoff to a private pilot? by TRA
Can a Sport Instructor give a tailwheel signoff to a private pilot (ASEL)? If he can, are there any limits to what the private pilot can fly?

Bay Area GA Airports.. by Dan
All, I'm going to the Bay area in October and I have heard that Oakland is very GA friendly, is that still the case? My main destinations are San Francisco and San Jose. I have also considered SQL which looks closer, but the ILS and other facilities at OAK might make it a bit easier for someone...

AOPA rebate gone? by Robert M. Gary
A friend of mine just sent me an email that he got a notice from MBNA that the AOPA 5% rebate would be discountinued after this year and instead he would get "2 points" for every dollar spent. I haven't checked my mail yet today but I didn't see anything about this on AOPA's web site. -Robert

Deer Strike by John T
It happened to me August 29, 2006. I went out for night currency with a short hop to Winchester, VA (KOKV). I flew there VFR since the only clouds in the forecast would be up in the Class A realm. Besides, I don't fly VFR in the DC ADIZ very often and I could use the practice there, too. The...

Looking at Beech Sundowners ... by [email protected]
Anyone here know any pluses or minuses about them? Specifics (other than all the usual every-airplane items) to look at on pre-buys? Thanks in advance.

Why don't voice radio communications use FM? by Mxsmanic
Perhaps this is a naive question, but: Why don't voice radio communications for aviation use FM radio instead of AM radio? I realize there's substantial inertia in the installed base of AM equipment, but surely one could allocate some new frequencies to FM and use them in parallel for some years...

Dynamite bought the twin towers down say 73 top professors...I get it, you'll wait till you hear it from Katie Couric. by [email protected]
The 9/11 terrorist attack on America which left almost 3,000 people dead was an "inside job", according to a group of leading academics. Around 75 top professors and leading scientists believe the attacks were puppeteered by war mongers in the White House to justify the invasion and the occupation...

Price gap between 100LL and autogas by M
Currently the price gap between 100LL and 87 unleaded, on a national average basis, is approximately $1.50, give and take. That's quite a bit higher than say 1997, I remember the gap was definitely below $1. The total consumption of 100LL will continue to drop in the years to come, caused by high...

My patner and I have noticed increase in static in our headets lately. Its not a squeltch issue, the static is continuous, even during squeltch. The problem happens regardless of which comm #1 or #2 is selected. Yesterday my partner turned off our KX-155 and the noise went away!!! What could cause...

Carrying glasses? by Emily
Someone told me a while ago that if you have a "must wear corrective lenses" restriction on your medical and wear contacts, that you have to carry a pair of regular glasses while flying. Is that true? And if so, does anyone have a reference?
