Geoff Peck by tony roberts
I haven't seen much discussion around here about this, but Geoff Peck was killed in a plane crash on his way home from Oshkosh this year. We all owe him our thanks - Geoff was the founder of the rec. aviation groups. Condolences to his family and friends Tony --

PIREP - National Stearman Fly-In by Jay Honeck
Every September the Stearmans fly home to roost in Galesburg, IL (KGBG) for a week under the waning, late-summer, Midwestern sun. This year they were greeted by absolutely picture-perfect weather, and many appreciative spectators. Last Thursday, we were among them. Best of all, this group's...

Flyboys by Dan Luke
Amazing aircraft performance! For rate-of-climb, a Pitts Special has nothing on these WW I planes, and they can pull more g's than an F-16. Also, we see that Hollywood still believes that bullets make sparks when they hit. Looks like realism on about the scale of "Memphis Belle",...

Casinos by air? by Jay Honeck
"Our" new casino, built to the tune of over $100 million, opened last week in Riverside, IA, just one town south of us. Iowa City's airport is the closest, so we expect to see some traffic because of this, although, of course, they've built their own hotel, so it may actually *hurt* our...

Hood and sim work at night loggable as night time? by Ron Garret
My instructor claims that when you fly under the hood at night you can't log it as night time, only as simulated instrument time. Is he right? I can't find anything in the FARs to support his assertion. What about simulator time at night? Can you log that as night time? rg

OT - Computer/Internet Question by Jay Honeck
I know there's a way to do this, but how do I "strip" the video out of web page like this?: http://www.harmonmediagroup.com/bader/crash.html People keep sending me links like this, asking that I add the video to our aviation video webpage, but I don't know how to get at the raw movie file. Any...

Unjustified GA User Fee by jbskies
FAA wants GA users pay additional user fees that to match the airline users. I don't think that's justified. Read the following paragraphs regarding to recent ConAir CRJ crash quoted from ABC News: -------------------- Although Blue Grass Airport's main runway is 7,000 feet, for some reason the...
