Tie-down & Hanger? by
Flyingmonk
I'm close to HEF YJO, I think those are correct IDs Manassas &
Leesburg. How would I go about finding hangers or tie-down spaces at
these two airports? What are the prices in this area (NOVA)?
Thanks to all who replies in advance.

The new Pentagon video by
[email protected]
The surveillance camera pix were released by the Pentagon today were on
the conspiracy theory sites since they started, and won't do anything
to bed the theorists' apprehensions (not that I believe them).
Did anyone here see anything in those pix that was conclusively one way
or the other? I...

FAA announces end of the 8710 form!! by
Robert M. Gary
The FAA is slowly removing the requirement to fill out 8710's for
ratings. There is a new web site.
http://aera.faa.gov
The student fills out their checkride app, you approve it as the CFI,
the DE approve it after the checkride and the web site prints a
temporary certificate. All the DE's in the...

KIOW is the place to be Sunday, too! by
Jay Honeck
After weeks of truly dreadful weather, and an untold number of obstacles,
both natural and man-made, the Iowa City Big Kids Toys Show opened to the
public with a bang! What a turn-out!
The weather was *perfect*, Mustangs flew, T-6s growled, Pitts Specials
covered the town with smoke, helicopters...

Flight planning software the accounts for winds ? by
Wiz
Wendy: If you are talking about automatically optimizing routes for
winds, than I believe FliteStar does that. The others mentioned, DUATS
and AOPA's RTFP, as well as the similar Jepp Internet flight planner,
take winds into account in presenting the nav log, but don't suggest
the optimal...

Nav 401L Test Set problem by
jasee
Sorry if this is the wrong group (probably!)
Please advise a more suitable group
I've got this test set, on the back is a mains socket, all the manuals I've
seen in the uk, show a uk socket. This one has six pins, (its the 110volt
version). It's not clear to me which pins are for which.

Recommendations for Oshkosh approaches by
Eric Bartsch
I'm starting to get prepared for my first flight into Oshkosh this
Summer (arrived by ground several times before). As I read through the
Notam, it looks like I'm either on the high speed end of the normal
Fisk/Ripon arrival (plane doesn't like flying below 90-100kt unless it
involves descending)...

Land Rover in C-130 commercial by
Kingfish
After seeing this commercial and viewing the documentary on the Land
Rover website, I still can't figure out how they got the GPS unit in
the truck to work while inside the plane. The doc. showed a guy
sticking something to the plane's windows that might be an antenna, but
I doubt a dash-mounted...

Teamsters send clear message by

What are the air space rules regarding flying over an event like that?
Anybody know? Would NASCAR have the authority to have the pilot arrested?
Can NASCAR ask for certain air space at a certain time to be 'theirs'?

Tie Down Trouble by
Dylan Smith
At some airfields, you get tiedowns in the grass that consist of some
kind of weight (such as a concrete block or tire filled with concrete)
and a tiedown. Perhaps they aren't much use -- a plane apparently can
still fly with one attached to the tail.
In this month's 'Pilot' magazine (British)...

Flight planning software the accounts for winds ? by
Mike Granby
FlightStar will do wind-aware routing and you can then look at the
various atltitude options for time, cost and fuel burn. It's not 100%
automatic, but it works great for my needs.

Jet fuel A-1 specific gravity by
[email protected]
When I was involved in the design-build project of at least two A-1
pipelines here in the United Arab Emirates, I recall seeing the bid
documents state the Specific Gravity of A-1 as being between 0.78 and
0.84.
Can anyone point me to a link that endorses this range as an accepted
international...

Lightning hitting Kennedy's jet. by

the crew could divert to HVN and fly *manually* when they claim that all
power was...

TSA certified CFIs by

Has anyone gone to the trouble of getting TSA certified to provide

prove my U.S. citizenship along with my medical and CFI certificate (I
would think they would...

Toronto airspace transition by
Andrew Sarangan
I will be flying through the Toronto airspace from the southwest,
landing at Buttonville (CYKZ). It would most likely be IFR. I realize I
have to detour around Pearson (CYYZ) to the north or south. I don't
know if there are standard fixes that ATC assigns for aircraft
transitioning the airspace. My...

new plane owner wanting to reduce costs right away... by

I'm a new plane owner, and in an unusual stroke of luck I own the plane
outright. The problem is that financially I'm not in a position to
maintain it (or own it for that matter...), so I'm looking into various
partnership setups to help offset costs such as fractionals,
co-ownerships and...
