Live Internet Airport Monitor by
Jay Honeck
http://www4.passur.com/msy.html
I know this has been covered here before, but not recently.
The Airport Monitor applet is just too cool. To be able to watch aircraft
coming and going, live, on a map of New Orleans, was science fiction until
not long ago.
I especially like being able to right...

Is it me, or is it Buffalo AFSS? by
Paul Tomblin
Every time I go outside of our area, I'm struck by how much better the
weather briefers are when I'm not talking to Buffalo AFSS. There are very
few briefers in Buffalo who do more than read you the numbers. One
exception - before I had my instrument rating, there was one briefer who
was famous...

carb ice experience by
Cub Driver
I've probably fired up the Cub 500 times, and every time until the
most recent one went much the same way, just as my instructor taught
me: when you do the mag check (1500 rpm in the Cub) your last check is
pull carb heat on, and watch the rpms drop a bit. Then, if they climb
back to 1500, you know...

Wind by
john smith
Probably been asked before, but I'm too lazy to google it.
Is wind caused by being "pushed" (blown) or "pulled" (sucked)?

Yet another one by
AJ
From the New York Daily News:
A pilot was killed yesterday when his twin-engine airplane crashed in
the middle of the Village of East Hampton, terrifying movie stars and
fans mobbing an annual film festival.
The Cessna 411 aircraft plummeted out of the clear eastern Long Island
sky at 1:44 p.m....

Restaurants With View of Reid Hillview Airport San Jose? by
Will
What are some restaurants in Eastridge Mall area that have a clear view of
the runways at Reid Hillview airport in San Jose, CA? I'm going out to eat
with some friends in that area and I would like to find a place with inside
windows and a good view of this busy small airport. It wouldn't hurt...

Fall Colors 2005 by
Jay Honeck
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/2005_fall_colors_flight.htm
Of course, the pictures don't do the flight justice (they never do),
but this year -- once feared to be a real "dud" for fall colors -- has
turned out to be quite beautiful here in Iowa.
Too bad it won't last much longer...

Young Eagle Safety by
TaxSrv
I fiddled with the math on the probable number of Y/E hours flown,
and the few known number of nonserious incidents (something like 3
since 1991) to compute the accident rate/100,000 hours. Having a
Y/E aboard is one of the safest ways to fly. The rate is so low
that it isn't necessary to adjust...

Landing in Alaska? Fear moose collisions no more by
AJ
Happy news from Reuters:
Pilots flying into and out of a small airport north of Anchorage,
Alaska, no longer have to keep an eye out for stray moose on the
runway.
The municipal airport at Wasilla, a town about 40 miles north of
Anchorage, has installed an electric anti-moose mat around...

just give you what I have so far, and you can tell me if it's right.

quickly. But I'm talking about a major flood of it in an enclosed...

Please help me choose a handheld VHF NAV/COM by
Cub Driver
You are correct that you want AA cells, not a rechargable.
I owned a Sporty's but didn't like it, the buttons especially. I
eBayed it and got a Vertex (then Yaseu). However, my handheld is my
primary radio, and the AA power of the Sporty's was a real problem. It
just ate batteries. Also, I had no...

I am a novelist who needs some help with my current story. (Nothing

A chance to give something back by
Jack Allison
Today I was blessed with a chance to take an 11 year old on his first
flight in a small plane. My wife and I met Matthew and his parents at a
church event this past summer. When Matthew found out I was a pilot, he
had lots of questions as he'd been reading about flying. He's one of
those really...
