Jet Disappears After Taking Off From Boeing Field by
NW_PILOT
SEATTLE -- A two-seat trainer jet vanished from radar Tuesday after taking
off from Boeing Field.
The L-39 took off shortly before noon, and around 11:58 a.m., the pilot
reported to a Seattle Center air traffic controller that the plane was
having control problems. The aircraft then disappeared...

Alien training rule perspective by
Roger Long
These new TSA training rules, however improved, are an excellent case study
in security.
Let's look first at the background. Before 911 and all the hysteria, a
flight instructor noticed that an odd guy seemed to only want to learn how
to take off and aim the plane without landing. The CFI alerted...

All ATPS ATP rating? by
Peter MacPherson
Has anyone used All ATPS for the ATP rating? Any locations
better than others? Since I'd have to travel anyway, I'd like
to go to one of the better locations.
TIA,
Pete

Participated in my first NASA GA research project (long) by
Peter R.
A few months ago I saw a news item on WSI's website (an aviation weather
provider for pre-flight and in-flight) stating that NASA was looking for
pilots of all experience levels to participate in upcoming GA research
projects. For the fun of it, I completed the web-based survey, which
asked about...

My aviation weblog; any others? by
David Megginson
Instead of clogging up the newsgroups, I've started a personal aviation

The best option, though, is to use the RSS to get a live feed in your...

Interesting Problem by
Roger
I went out to do a bit of practice. A friend who is also a pilot, but
inactive at present due to sending three kids through college, went
along.
We practiced most of the maneuvers needed for the PPL and I let him
fly the Deb for a while. He is one of the few experienced pilots who
have done well....

CVS AnyWhereMap in Eastern Oklahoma by
sidk
I am considering AnyWhereMap but apparently CVS does not have a "AWM
demo" that one can download. I want to see it work on a "real"
PocketPC first. If any of you in the Eastern Oklahoma (Tulsa and East
or South) have this up-and-running and would be willing to show it, I
would be anxious to...

Question from a new flight student (whopping 7 hours!) by

Question from a new flight student (whopping 7 hours!)
I was looking at the AOPA airport info.
ANP and W29 don't list AWOS or ATIS freqs.
That seems pretty critical.
So - where does one download "better" info so you can get local weather

Existing training is grandfathered out of the TSA rule by
David Brooks
http://dmses.dot.gov/docimages/pdf90/300465_web.pdf
Central paragraph: "The regulation's requirements for flight training on
aircraft with an MTOW of 12,500 pounds or less do not take effect until
October 20, 2004. Flight students who are enrolled in such flight training
prior to October 20, 2004,...

Rewritten TSA rule by
David Brooks
I think the three "clarifications" posted by the TSA amount to a significant
rewrite of the rule. It's kinda hard to comment on the result. Does anyone
want to try to mark up the text to reflect what it actually says now?
Although, I supposed, the comment period has formally closed. The docket...

IFR checkride in IMC: PASSED! by
gatt
When the weather is bad and the examiner gives you the option of delaying
for better weather, don't say "Well, if I can't pass my checkride in IMC I'm
probably not qualified for the IFR rating."
First attempt at the checkride. Icing forecast at 6,000. Examiner said
"No problem. We probably...

Hull/Liability Insurance Recommendations by
Jim Weir
The BlueOnBlue 182 is coming up for insurance (hull & liability) renewal in
about fifteen days. I'm very careful to get competitive quotes using the same
coverage. So far it is:
Phoenix $805
AIG $920
Global $939 (current carrier with no renewal discount)
Any suggestions on another quote that...
