5. Where was the Confederate Air Force?
It no longer exists. The name was changed to Commemorative Air Force a few
years ago.

Nice article about flying around NYC by
Mr. Smith
In the Saturday NY Times; flying the VFR areas around NYC in a T6 Texan.
Nicely written, and really evokes the experience of flying, and the more
unusual experience of flying low around NYC

Have you been to an airport where the people in the tower are consitently rude? by
LowApproach_SoCal
Just curious... As I frequently fly up to the Santa Monica airport
from San Diego for dinner (it is a nice, scenic flight for people) I
have found that there is one guy who works the tower there that is
consitently rude.
SMO has some unique procedures that stress noise abatement, and I am
very...

"Rescue" flight, PPL by
Joe Johnson
Last week, as I returned to my rental FBO after an evening local flight, the
clerk on duty said an instructor and his student were stuck at an airport
about 40 minutes away. I spoke to the instructor on the phone and I agreed
to fly up and bring them back. He mentioned that, of course, I...

Pilot-in-command question... by
Tom Kreyche
After looking online and in the FARs, I still can't see a definite answer
for the following question:
Let's say two pilots are flying together in an aircraft, and the aircraft
doesn't require more than one pilot and it's not a commercial aircraft. If
the pilots alternate flying the aircraft by...

Where to pick up passengers at HPN? by
Roberto Waltman
Hello,
Tomorrow I am planning to fly from 4N1, (Greenwood Lake, NJ,) to HPN
(Westchester Cty, NY, ), to pick up a passenger, do a small tour and
fly back to 4N1. (Assuming the weather turns out to be better than
forecasted...)
I have never flown to HPN before. The passenger (my daughter) will...

Ted Kennedy put on No Fly List by
Roger Long
Yes, really! It took him several phone calls before he could get on his
flight.
Now, I know that the political leanings of most of you in this group will
lead you to think that keeping people like Kennedy off of airplanes and away
from Washington is good for the nation. However, if it can...

Captain Al Haynes - Angel Flight 21st Anniversary by
Hilton
Hi,
I was in Denver this afternoon. A group went up to the Denver tower, had a
yummy BBQ lunch, but the highlight was the talk by Captain Haynes. The hour
seemed to go by in 20 minutes. He not only discussed the United 232
acccident, but also the lessons we should learn from it, and the effect...

First jump! by
Doug Vetter
Hi all,
Just wanted to relate another "aviation first" experience I had
recently. I've been flying airplanes for 15 years now, and have been
known to strap on a parachute now and again for some acro, but I
recently decided to do my first tandem freefall parachute jump out of a
perfectly good...

Humbled and Learning (Slowly) by
Mike Rapoport
Recently I bought a 1974 Helio Courier H295, which is a six place STOL
taildragger. Prior to last week I had never flown a tailwheel airplane.
Wow, this it hard! The Helio is designed for one purpose: to take off and
land very short. Everything is compromised to accomplish this. The main
gear...

Arizona weather by
news.verizon.net
I'm on my way to Flagstaff AZ late next week in my peashooter 172. I'm
watching the radar as thunderstorm after thunderstorm passes through the SW.
The last couple of days the forecasts mention 1-inch hail at my destination!
I've never flown the SW before. The FBO in Flagstaff kind of downplayed...

Blue Angels - Another point of view by
Bill Denton
Shortly before noon, I went to the kitchen and made lunch, then brought it
out to the living room and placed it on the coffee table.
I always eat lunch in the living room so I can watch the reruns of Law &
Order, one of my favorite shows.
As I ate and watched Law & Order, from time to time I...

Another bit of history gone.... by
Jerry Jesion
The last vestiges of the first concrete runway ever used in the US
have just been destroyed. Due to renovations that Ford Motor Company
is doing to its Dearborn Proving Ground (which is built on the old
Ford Airport) any traces of the first all concrete runway are no more.
I find this kind of sad....

Distortion in headset - advice wanted by
Andrew Sarangan
The audio from the overhead speakers are fine, but the audio from the
headset is very weak. I have to turn the volume to max, but then I get
a lot of distortion and can hardly understand the transmission. The
results are the same from both radios. The problem is not with the
headset, because the...

Garmin GNS 430 by
George Kornreich
We're considering adding a GNS 430 to our panel. The hight of the
display is rather small, and Garmin tells me that the position of the
plane is fixed in the center, and can not be relocated to the bottom
of the display, which would allow the entire display, rather than only
the top 1/2 of the...

I'm planning a trip to North Carolina at Christmas-time.

T-hangar's bi-fold door: Convert to a motorized opening door? by
Peter R.
Here's a silly question: Is there any way to convert a t-hangar's
manually opening bi-fold door to a motorized one?
I just rented a t-hangar that uses a circular chain hanging off a large
pulley near the top of the hangar to control the door. The chain must
be pulled thirty to forty times to...
