KLN to Garmin 396 Converter by
Mike Granby
Over the past months, I've been working on a converter to allow
flightplan data from a KLN-94 or KLN-90B to be transmitted to a Garmin
396. This facility already exists with Garmin panel-mounts, but the
King units output their data in a slightly different format. The
converter takes the King data...

Oil leaks? by
John Doe
Looks like my mechanic just found a small crack in the bottom of my
oil pan
I had noticed a small amount of oil on the belly, around the front
gear well, and a small bit coming out the top of the cowling at the
oil access door that normally wasn't there.
Had him pull the cowling off and after a...

Oshkosh Lodging by
[email protected]
I was wondering if anyone has Oshkosh lodging recommendations for the
26th to the 30th. This will be my 6th Oshkosh, but the first time I'll
be able to fly into the show. All previous times we have commuted from
Madison after flying in there due to relatives in that part of the
state.
I know the...

Impressed with the Courtesy of ATC from NC to Miami and Back by
jls
It's been a while since I did much radio work with ATC and was dreading
it but found ATC very courteous, helpful, and professional.
Those people work in pressure cookers, and yet they manage to be so
nice.
One thing I noticed. The controllers have widely differing
personalilties and...

I took the garbage out tonight by
John Clonts
You know that life is good, when your garbage bin contains 12 empty quarts
of aeroshell W100, and 6 empty MGD bottles.
Today I installed the oil "quick change" valve, then went flying for 30
minutes, then changed the oil. Oh that makes it SO much easier! No safety
wire, no "channeling" the oil...

Whats the deal with counter-rotating props? by
Dico
Hello,
We're looking into a twin and the Twin Comanche is on our list. I know
that the later models have the counter rotating props -- although i
don't know too much about what this means, other than its "better".
We fly a mooney now and thus I don't worry about the prop -- as long as
it keeps...

Devine Air Group (23R,Texas) PIREP by
Plaindriver
I would strongly recommend NOT using Devine Engine (23R) for ANYTHING! I am still finding problems with an overhaul and interior refurbishment done there in March of 04. And owner of the shop, Bruce McWhorter wont even respond to any of my numerous emails. I have even sent hin distinct photos...

bad cylinder by
blanche cohen
Looks like cylinder #1 on an O-360 is dying. Shop says I could get
more time out of it -- good compressions, no metal, but the bottom
plug is covered in oil. Since it has 2500 hours on it, I figured that
it's time.
So -- the big questions
1) Overhaul or buy a new one?
2) If buying a new one,...

Removing original equipment by
Robert M. Gary
Is there any reason I can't remove my factory OAT and throw it out? I
have a mechanical OAT gauge but would rather just use my EDM OAT gauge.
The JPI says their gauge is only certified as "supplemental" but does
the FAA even care if I have an OAT at all?
I've been replacing the original OAT gauge...

Which overhauled Lycoming 0-360 A4M Engine To Fit In My Archer ? by
Roy Page
The Lycoming 0-360 A4M in our Archer is now 2250 SMOH and we are intending
to fit an exchange overhauled engine very soon.
The decision to pull the engine out was easy compared with trying to decide
on the engine to buy.
We have a number of quotes and researched factory and field...

Prop Balancing Question by
A Lieberman
Past couple of flights, found a screw that was loose on the spinner and
actually lost one in flight. A&P replaced them, and said during preflight,
check them. If they work their way loose again, need to get the prop
balanced.
Logs show no maintenance on the prop, so I am sure it's well overdue...

I have been trying to find the operator's manual or other documentation

me to a spot on the web where I can download it, I would be grateful.
Thanks.

Nasa Icing courses by
Jim Burns
As many of you probably know, recent midwest weather has been a steady
stream of low overcast, misty, and foggy days prohibiting most VFR flight
and making IFR flights a spin of the icing roulette wheel. I thought it may
be a good opportunity for us to review NASA's icing online...

Mystery Oil leak... cont'd and long by
Jim Burns
Why would a cold engine drip oil out of the breather? If you're bored or
have any answers... read on.
Lycoming IO-540 C4B5
Like some of the other owners in the group, we've had a mystery oil leak on
one of our engines. Nothing severe, not enough to show up as "missing" on
the dip stick. ...

The smell of a decomposing mouse somewhere forward of the firewall by

Man, this aircraft ownership thing really does present its share of tests.
The latest issue I am dealing with is a decomposing mouse somewhere forward
of the firewall. My aircraft is a Bonanza V35 and I am flying at least
twice a week, but frequency (or lack thereof) of flight appears to...

Strange loss by

We lost one off our field last Sunday... Mike is a nice guy who was
regarded as a good pilot, calm, quiet, and safety concious... He has
an older Skyhawk with the Continental 6 banger... He went up to
Harrison, 80D, and was seen landing... No one heard or noticed anything
after that... Later a...
