TKM 170 as a replacement radio by
Ian Taylor
All,
I am looking to upgrade the avionics in my '78 Mooney 201. I am going to
swap out the KY196 and KNS 80 for a Garmin 430 which will drive the KCS-55A
HSI, which leaves me with a KX175B driving a KI-204 as a backup ILS/NAV/COM.
It would be nice to have a "flip-flop" option over there, and...

CHT probe + resistor installed (final) by
Jim Burns
To finish an earlier thread I'm reporting on the install of a replacement
CHT probe in our Aztec. For those who didn't read the previous edition, the
left engine CHT probe in our Aztec failed and I started searching for a
replacement for the old AC Spark Plug Co. probe. A couple parts houses...

Garmin backing away from additional GDL-69 features for 430/530 products? by
Andrew Gideon
Take a look please at the bottom of:
http://www.aviationsafety.com/gdl_69_comparison.htm
According to this, the WAAS upgrade for the 430/530 will no longer include
as a side effect access to the "additional" features of the GD-69.
My understanding, from speaking with a Garmin rep months ago, was...

Annual Operating Costs by
Jim Burns
I just figured up the first year's annual operating costs on our Aztec.
Using an average fuel price of $2.75 per gallon, we flew, hangered
(partially heated), insured, and maintained it for $188 per Tach hour,
slightly less per Hobbs hour.
This does not include any upgrades or improvements. All...

Mooney M20F narrow across the shoulders by
Mark Hansen
I looked at a 1969 Mooney M20F over the weekend, and was surprised
to see how narrow it is in the cockpit. While sitting in the pilot's
seat, I was pushed to the right by the left side of the cabin, and
was not able to sit directly behind the control yoke.
Perhaps I'm just too big for this...

PA-28-140D Fluctuating RPM indicator by
att news group
I purchased a 1971 Cherokee 140 shortly after getting back into flying the
first of this year. It is a marvelous plane, relatively inexpensive to fly
and to maintain.
The other night while flying with my instructor he asked me if I typically
got this much vibration. I told him that it felt...

Rec.Aviation Photo Gallery Updates by
Jay Honeck
It's been an incredibly busy summer, and I haven't had time to update -- or
announce updates -- in our rec.aviation "Rogues Gallery" since well before
Oshkosh.
Well, that nonsense ends right NOW -- it's time to get back with the
program!
What is this "Rogues Gallery" you ask? It's a webpage...

All this Barron Thomas stuff by
xyzzy
You do have to give it to Thomas for coming on here and debating this
stuff.
Of course in some ways he is blind to how he is perceived, as is
everyone probably. His response, which is basically, "if you haven't
bought from me you have no standing to evaluate me" shows that he does
not see the...

Cleaning Windows -- Acrylic Cleaners? by
zatatime
I'm wondering what type of acrylic cleaners are used to clean the
windsheild and windows in your aircraft and where you get it. I've
found a bunch of cleaners through the standard aviation sales channels
but am wondering if there is something I could pick up locally so I
don't always have to plan...

advice needed - weird temps by
tony roberts
Hi
I have a newly rebuilt 0300-D.
It is running hot - at OAT 93F, 2 cylinders are exceeding 400F on
climbout and oil exceeds 200F.
(BUT EGT's are perfect - less than 45F spread on my EI Monitor)
On runup, no rise in RPM prior to drop on leaning!
All baffling is brand new and installed correctly.

Dead Glideslope needle by
Jim Burns
We've got a dead glideslope needle on our #1 indicator. (KI-209 driven by a
KX155 12v) GS flag works, needle stays centered.
I dug through our log books and noticed that this also happened in 2002 and
was repaired by "repair to aircraft wiring". I contacted the avionics shop
that did the work...

Garmin 396 'installation' in the Maule by

Well, it came yesterday. Great box. Looks like the challenge will be

The thing has a big non-removeable magnet so distance from the compass
is needed. It has an extension cord and mounting screws but needs good
sky exposure... any thoughts are...
