Jet Fuel Tax Refund by
Dude
I am perplexed by the IRS' claims that Jet Fuel is getting diverted for
highway usage.
Isn't Jet Fuel more expensive than diesel wholesale? I know it is more
retail. It just doesn't seem logical that people would be buying Jet to
avoid the measly difference in taxation. After all, most won't...

Enroute GPS Install Cost? by
Carl Orton
Can an approach-certified GPS unit be installed but certified only for
enroute IFR use?
WILL a shop install an approach-certified GPS unit to enroute IFR
certification only?
Is an annunciator panel required for enroute use? Is an OBS resolver
required for enroute use?
I'm trying to minimize the...

Cessna Turbo 310 Riley Rocket by
O. Sami Saydjari
Does anyone know anything about the "Riley Rocket" version of the Cessna
Turbo 310? I am getting claims of "260 KTAS at 20,000 feet burning only
24 gph total." Does that make sense? Seems a little too good to be
true. Does anyone have actual experience with a Riley Rocket that
matches this...

Power Setting Tables - Tradeoffs by
O. Sami Saydjari
I am a little confused about power setting options on my Piper Turbo
Arrow from my power setting table.
Assuming I want 75% power, at Sea Level, I can run it at:
1. 2300 RPM and 34.8 inches manifold pressure
2. 2400 RPM and 33.8 inches
3. 2500 RPM and 32.8 inches
4. 2575 RPM and 31.5 inches
How...

Online cost of airplane ownership spreadsheet by
Ben Jackson
For a long time I've been meaning to convert my cost of ownership
spreadsheet into a web page. Over the weekend I wrote a rudimentary
sc-to-html converter (sc is an ancient, terminal based spreadsheet).
http://ben.com/flying/costown.html
I've already filled the page with caveats and disclaimers...

Airtex Interior Refurbishment - Day 53 by
Mike Spera
Day 53 (Final Big Box and End of the Road in Sight!)
Well, the final shipment has arrived! Along with it, the bill. Total was
$2771 plus another $70 for shipping all 3 boxes. Again I was struck by
the dramatic comparison between the new and old wall panels. I cannot
believe we tolerated the old...

Flying to Alaska info by
[email protected]
Hey all... awhile back I posted about my proposed flight from Virginia to
southeast Alaska (specifically, Juneau). I used to live there so I'm aware of the
weather potential. I'm thinking of staging from the interior of BC (Atlin, perhaps)
and coming down Taku inlet or White pass if the weather's...

sticky valve or by
Dick
Old WW2 mechanic says he hears a sticky valve on my C-85 when I fire up for
first time in morning but can't describe the sound and says it lasts only as
long as a finger snap.
Wants me to add Marvel Mystery oil. I use Aeroshell 100 (50 weight) and
change it every 25 hours.
I can't detect any...

(RST Engineering, Please read!) "The Muse" by
H.P.
In other words, the volume of the music audio has to
be fairly high, or the Muse will cut out during softer parts of a song.
The audio output device needs a compression circuit to keep audio levels
more near a constant output. There are portable cd players out there that
have such a...

Airtex Interior Refurbishment - Day 51 by
Mike Spera
Day 51 (Diversions)
As part of the wall panel installation, there were several small
subprojects that needed to be done. Some things were necessary to "clean
up" previous sloppy or failing installations. Others were needed because
the new walls were not made exactly like the old ones. Still...

Someone broke into my airplane :( by
Louis L. Perley III
Went out to the airport last night around 8:30p.m. with the
intention of doing some night stop-and-go's to regain night currency in
my 152. The last time I'd flown it was Saturday (From JeffCo to
Scottsbluff and back). After stopping in at the FBO to let them know
I'd need some fuel I headed out to...

I have one. It works fine for what it's intended to do. I think
an intercom with a music input would probably be a better plan.

Pre-buy after Annual by
Douglas Olson
Newcomer to group and ownership here. Hope this isn't an FAQ, but Googling
the keywords brings up too many hits that don't address my question.
I'm looking at a fairly typical first plane to buy ... 1960s Cherokee ...
that appears to be just right. It has reasonable airframe time and low
engine...

Structure of AD Numbers by
O. Sami Saydjari
Do Airworthiness Directive Numbers have any meaning and structure? For
example, AD 82-27-3. Does one part mean year issued? Another refer to
type equipment effected? Another, perhaps a serial number of the AD
itself? Just Curious.

Key Locks -- Part II by
Jay Honeck
After reading the other posts about key locks, the responses brought another
question to mind.
My key ignition switch works very hard, and the key can be removed in any
position. It's hard to push it in and keep the starter engaged (it's one
of those turn-while-you-push switches), so we usually...
