AC 43.13, welding and a hip-check by
Michael Horowitz
Background: I have a wing strut with a bend in it and it may also be
cracked.
Looking thru AC43.13 at various welding options raises some questions:
Paragraphs 4-92 (Repair by Welded Sleeve) and 4-97(Splicing using
Larger Diameter Replacement Tubes)appear to apply. When would one
technique be used...

Dave
I am considering going to take a look at a 152. I need something to
fly while doing th efabric on the Taylorcraft and the kids need
something to learn in. Student pilot solo insurance in a taildragger
might just be spectacular.
The plane has about 7500 TT which may or may not be OK depending...

Dynamic prop balance by
Ben Jackson
My IO-540 with Hartzell compact 2 blade prop is smoother at 2700 RPM
than at cruise (2200-2400 RPM). If I have it dynamically balanced at
cruise will it vibrate more at climb power? Does the fact that it's
smooth at climb power suggest that the engine/prop combo is okay and
there is a problem...

XM or Sirius Radio? by
Jay Honeck
We're looking at adding satellite radio service to Atlas. (It's his
reward for winning the trophy for "Best Cherokee 235" at the National
Cherokee fly-in last weekend!)
According to PS Engineering, there is an audio-in channel that can be
used in our existing CD/intercom. We would be looking to...

Windshield cleaning by
OSKI 3
I don't know how many folks I have talked to, do NOT know about.
Bounty paper towels (MICROWAVE/COOKING). I have used these for 15
years and have not had to replace a windshield yet. These towels are
specifically for Microwave use and have No metal recycled crap in them.
A lot better than trying...

Cessna buyers in So. Cal. beware ! by
Bill Berle
This is a very lengthy but worth reading post. For the purposes of
possibly saving someone's life or at least preventing serious injury
to their wallets, I am posting below the text of an e-mail I sent
recently to someone who had advertised a Cessna in the San Diego area.
I was looking for a super...

Yes. I had one claim (about $1,000). No questions, prompt payment, no increase in

In all the googling I've done so far, I find that MEK is used (among other

I need to know if MEK fumes have a short/long term effect on plexiglass.

O-320 Engine Costs - 172 by
Jerry Napoliano
As I've been discussing in another thread, I'm evaluating a 1982 C172P
for purchase. I was using $20k as the TOTAL cost of an engine
replacement, but apparently that is high.
I'd like to hear from owners that have experience with this. If I
take it in at 2000 hrs, what am I going to pay (read: ...

rebuilding by

I'm just curious about rebuilding an aircraft engine. If you can rebuild
automotive engines, will an aircraft engine be a no brainer? Are special
tools often required?
Does anyone know of any good websites that do a walk through of the
process. Not that I'm planning on doing it, let alone via...

Any info on WC Pye Course & Speed Calculator by
Jack McAdams
My grandson gave me a beautiful Course & Speed Calculator manufactured
by W.C. Pye & Co Ltd. The mahagony box is marked as REF. No. 6B/120.
It is a MK IIA model.
It is obviously analagous to a very early E6B. My guess it is WWII
era, maybe a bit earlier.
Does anyone happen to have an instruction...
