I have a Cessna 150 and finally lost one of the cowl fastener screws
for the lower cowling. It's the slotted quarter-turn type.
What's the best source for replacing these? I guess...

Lightspeed Comes Through! by
Jay Honeck
As many of you know, while at OSH 2003 I had one of those inadvertent
"once-in-a-lifetime" conversations with the president of Lightspeed
Aviation. The story goes as follows:
I've had three pair of LightSpeed headset -- two 15s and a 20XL -- that I
have purchased over the last four years. The...

expense analysis by

I did some analysis of the data I keep (which on the airplane is EVERYTHING)
and thought the readers here might find some of it interesting.
I added up everything I have EVER spent on this 1967 C-172H (acquisition,
upgrades, annuals, fuel, insurance, repairs, parking, new headsets and GPS,
paint...

SIFL Tax question for small business owners by
Dave
I'm ready to buy and have finally found good prospects not too far
from me. I'm a small business owner. I've spoken to my accountant
about the tax advantages. He's not a pilot but anything that saves
money is good news to him. I have several clients that are far enough
away to make flying...

R-5107A and R-5103A transit by
Mike Noel
Does anyone know how likely it is to get permission to fly through these
two restricted areas? If permission is scarce, I guess I'll have to take
the scenic route through El Paso.

Altitude encoder by
Chad Lemmen
I need a new encoder. I currently have a Trans-Cal D120-P2-T. I can get
an overhauled exchange for $230. Should I do that or just replace it with
a new ACK A-30 or Ameri-King AK-350? The Ameri-King is the cheapest at
$150. I believe both the ACK and Ameri-King use an oven to compensate...

Exxon 20W50 by
Dennis O'Connor
Did you notice the blurb in AOPA EPILOT that Exxon has, and has been having,
deposits of grey crud in their bottles of oil, but they say it is just fine
and there is no need for them to replace it, or to pay to tear your engines
down...
Besides, there is a lot less of the crud in this months...

I buy crush gaskets in copper and aluminum from he

Pricing a '74 Archer by
Mike Noel
I'm trying to decide what is a fair price for this aircraft. I looked at
the asking price of 74 Archers in Trade-a-Plane and saw prices ranging from
the high 40's to the high 50's. I used the TAP estimator and came up with
about 52K. This plane is in good condition in and out, has older...

Lightspeed with Foggles question by

Hi Sydney,
I've got Lightspeeds and although the noise was never a problem, the way
they press the bows of the foggles into my brain starts to bother me after
awhile. I've often thought about buying a cheap pair of wire frame
sunglasses and cutting the bows off them, then also cutting most of the...

Currently we are considering sending it directly to Hartzell, but if...

Of course everyone thinks their plane is wonderful, but every plane has at least

Next step in the 175B, insurance companies are a pain! CS prop question by
Wayne
Well, sent my info to the insurance, they got back to me, through one of
the other partners, and said they needed more information. They wanted to
know how many hours I had in a 175B, I said I had none, but shouldn't the
172 count? It's the same except for the CS prop. So I gave them what...
