winch pull of plane into hanger by
[email protected]
I am back to pulling the warrior back into the hanger with a winch. I
tried modifying a small briggs and stratton powered "mule" to the
cherokee towbar attachment but could not get the control I wanted.
So now, I need the experience of anyone else who has rigged up a winch
with extended control. ...

Cherokee 180 prop RPM by
Nathan Young
I have a '71 PA28-180, with a fixed 60" pitch Sensenich prop. This is
the standard cruise prop for a PA28-180.
The POH indicates that 2700 RPM should only be able to be achieved
through 7000ft DA.
I am able to hit redline (2700 RPM) in level flight up to 11500 feet
density altitude. POH...

Question on prop cycle by
Frode Berg
Hi!
I was told by my mechanic to only pull the prop handle until I could audibly
hear a slight pitch change to establish that it was working.
However, the aircraft manual says it should be cycled completely, and on a
cold engine three times to make sure oil is applied to the governor, or...

UPDATE #3 -- Headset Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I put a voltmeter on the alternator output and measured between 32-35 AC
volts at moderate load and moderate RPM. Looks like some diodes have
decided to give up.
Does anyone have any info on the Plane-Power alternators? There is a
PMA'd replacement for my aircraft, and I will go that direction...

True Cost of Owning an Old Bonanza by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm interested in hearing from people who have 'real' first-hand
knowledge of the true costs of owning an older (early 50s) V-tail
Bonanza. I've heard all the horror stories about the outrageous costs;
but the thing is that I heard the same stories before I bought my
*last* plane (a 1963...

Mystery Virbration - Part 2 by
Mike Spera
The "Mystery Vibration" saga in the 74 Cherokee 140 (O-320 -
E3D)continues. I began the quest by addressing those items that were due
anyway. Swapped out the plugs with the old set and saw no difference.
Had the mags overhauled as they were 20 hours away from their 500 hour
mark where I usually...

Clearly it's Lyco's intention to get people to take up their $2000

What is unclear is exactly WHY. Are these 5500 or so cranks actually

Water in our oil, or just alot of hot air? by
[email protected]
I just watched a program about the huge Oresund bridge between Denmark
and Sweden, and there was a segment about how the corrosion problem for
the bridge was dealt with. Instead of painting, they use sealed
compartments that have the air humidity kept below 60%. This they said
eliminates corrosion....

Prop Blade Wiggles on C182 by
Greg Esres
A local pilot called me with a preflight issue of a propeller blade on
C182 being a bit loose in its socket. Holding the blade tip, he could
wiggle it front to back and twist it slightly, changing its pitch.
Some mechanics told him it was safe to fly home.
Anyone disagree?

The Commercial License: Is it a good long-term investment? by
[email protected]
Hello everyone,
Everyone knows that if you put in thousands of dollars for a solid
college education, you'll reap the benefits later on. Is it also true
for the FAA commercial license? If I put in the extra money to get a
commercial license, can recoup that money (and them some) by starting
an...

Oil temperature questions by
Peter R.
A few weeks ago while flying through -17 degree C air aloft, I spotted what
appeared to be really a low oil temperature indication of the
turbo-normalized, IO-520 engine in my V35. For a few moments, the oil
temperature was around 125 degrees F.
When I landed I contacted my mechanic, who...

Piper Seneca by

hi all!
This might be a silly question, but I am dreaming of owning, or co-owning a
Piper Seneca.
Not this year or next, but maybe within the next 10 years.
I have been browsing the aircraft for sale sites, and found planes from the
70's (Seneca II) selling for as low as $139K with about half...

EVAC-U8 smoke hood update by
Mike Noel
I just got a call from Aircraft Spruce. The makers of the EVAC-U8 smoke
hood are initiating a recall. The details are at www.evacsafety.com . Use
the sidebar links to get to the refund instructions. Evidently the units do
not adequately protect users from CO.
