Strange weather question by
cavelamb himself
A few weeks ago, driving back toward Dallas from San Antonio I think I
may have seen something very strange... possibly.
I'm not completely sure.
Nut it did seem like it...
It was a bizarre weather day.
Snow on the blooming blue bonnets the day before.
Somewhere just north of Waco I hit a huge...

oil pressure problem by
Dick[_1_]
I'd like some advice where the problem is no reading on the gauge ( and can
use a Volt-ohm-meter if have to).
It is a three wire Electric gauge and a bell shaped sensor with the lead
attached at the top. Although upon sensor removal, there was oil pressure
(squirting G).
Could I check for...

Northstar M1 LORAN Battery by
Ron Gordon
I recently purchased a database update for my Northstar M1 LORAN from CMC
Electronics and a new battery which they also list on their Web site.
Replacing the EPROM database was easy, but I cannot find where the battery
goes. Has anyone replaced the battery in the M1? Where is it?
Thanks!

Fuel prices-BTU's per Gal. by
Jerry Wass
Don't like to beat a dead horse, but--
As C.S. Nixon said--"let me make myself perfectly clear"
I agree that a gallon of Mogas has more btu's than a gallon of Avgas
The main reason being--1 gal mogas= 7.422 lbs.
1 gal avgas= 6.978 lbs.

Seattle Aviation High School by
Rich S.[_1_]
Although I have heard of it in the past, I tend to (now and again) forget
things. There is an article in the local paper about a Gig harbor gal who
has won appointment to the "Aviation High School" located in South Seattle.
My question is this: Many years ago, one could take a run-out engine to...

61 Cessna 210A 810 S/FReman by
Victor Bravo
I have just listed a friend's really nice 210 on ebay. The airplane
was maintained on a Part 135 certificate, owned and flown by an A&P-
IA / Airline Maintenance Inspector for a specialized medical transport
business. This is an excellent opportunity to get a no-problems, well-
maintained mid-time...

Fuel prices--BTU's per gal. by
George
I think it was 1995, at Oshkosh, I attended a forum on the differences
between auto fuel and avgas. It was presented by a fellow who owned
and operated one of the few refinerys which produce avgas.
IIRC, a refinery turns crude oil into different hydro-carbons. They
are all solvents, and all...

Fuel prices--BTU's per gal. by
Jerry Wass
Hate to disagree. but there are more BYU's in a GALLON of Avgas than in
a GALLON of Mogas. Why?? Avgas weighs more per Gallon...
Most fuel type hydrocarbons have nearly the same BTU's per Lb.

Requirement to paint over 2-part epoxy? by
Michael Horowitz
I know that primer(over steel) is designed to provide a base for a top
coat, and (allegedly) you should not leave steel with only a zinc
chromate coating (although I've seen steel fuselages zinc chromated
only and they appear in good condition).
I have read that if you appy a 2-part epoxy primer,...

Flying Car Spotted at TIW by

Sunday night a couple of the boys (names withheld to protect the

the active in a blue Pontiac Grand-Am, they went roaring down the
runway at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Departing the north end of the
runway the car flew...

Ship's Power (or portable GPS) Question by
Kyle Boatright
I'm an old technology guy, flying comfortably behind my Lowrance 100, but
I've encountered a problem where there shouldn't be one: The internal
batteries still die and take the unit down, even when running on "ship's
power".
Last fall, I added a power outlet in the cockpit to power the...

Collection of early Kitplanes -- Free by
RST Engineering
One of my students' father cleaned out his hangar a few weeks ago and came
across his collection of Kitplanes magazines from the early to mid 90s. I
haven't checked, but the student said that it was from the very first issue
through sometime in 1995. There are 50 of them, all in relatively...
