http://users.lmi.net/~ryoung/Sonerai...lOnGrBrace.jpg Please
take a look at this sketch. My Mongrel Dog is using the fuselage of a Hummel Utracruiser Plus. There is not a lot of real estate available, in part due to the monocoupe beams that extend from the firewall to mount the engine. http://flyhummel.com/plusprotowip.htm and http://flyhummel.com/images/Plus/plusengcomp.jpg And the bottom of the firewall is not the lowest point in the fuel system. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out where to put the gascolator. The nose gear (yes, I know, the prototype is a taildragger - why do you think I call it a Mongrel Dog?) will have a 4130 bracket tying the strut into the fuselage. Why not mount the gascolator there?? Perhaps the fuel pumps as well, with a little fairing to keep everything nice and sanitary. In a bad crash, it will get torn up, but in a bad crash the firewall rarely stays intact anyway, particularly the lower edge.. And the possibility of fire, well, that's what my nomex flight suit is there for. This IS Experimental aviation. Any thoughts from those who have built an flown more airplanes than I have? |
