It's been a while since I visited this group, I've been busy putting a

Narco Com IIA Wiring connections? by
Rod
I picked up an old Narco Com IIA radio.
I'd like to wire it up at home in the garage so I can listen to the
traffic and approach control flying overhead.
I've searched the internet high and low looking for documentation that
would identify the connections on the back. I can't find any, not...

Experiences with vendors by
Bug Dout
Van's Air Force (VAF) is probably the largest homebuilding site on the
Web. But it's devoted to Vans Aircraft homebuilts (the RV
series). Worse--for the purpose of this post--it actively deletes
negative posts about vendors. So you get all the praises of good
vendors, but negative comments are...

O-200 Crankshaft STC for the C85 Continental ---- How's It Going? by
jls
We are about to buy a couple of them if the history is good. Anybody know
of any glitches with the modified engine? The STC is $350 and was
originated by Don Swords of Don's Dream Machines in Griffin, GA. You
install an O-200 crankshaft, O-200 rods, and O-200 pistons in a C85, for a
total cost...

A couple nice things at the Fly-in. The Ag Cat and Defiant were the
highlights. And a nice helicopter surprise. A couple ultralights.
Tomorrow looks iffy - weather wise.

Group Activity by
Wayne Paul
I have been off this group for over a year. Previously this was a very
active group; however, there has been very few messages since I returned.
It may be due to my service provider, or maybe with the passing of a few key
members the overall activity has significantly diminished.
The main...

Any cool new amphibs at OSH? by
GuppyPilot[_2_]
Missed OSH this year due to work. Shearwater aircraft claims to be there
with a mockup or prototype. Anybody seen it/taken any pics? I'm also
interested in the AeroCat, if they came back this year.
Thanks!

Filament wound airfoils. (again) by
[email protected]
Howdy,
I was channel surfing the other day, and caught a glimpse of how they
make rotor blades for the Hind MI-8 helicopter on RT. (Russian News)
Very Interesting. They use small sections of metal (aluminum?)
honeycomb cut to the shape of the airfoil, align it them with the spar
on the leading and...

Does anyone have a dimensioned sketch of the Ford model A engine?
Or a sketch and a reference dimension?
The 1932 Flying and glider manual for EAA does have the engine mount
dimensions which might help.

Thoughts on GDI in aircraft engines. by
[email protected]
Howdy,
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) has been integrated into quite a few
automotive engines over the past few years. After reading an article
about it, and googling for the availability of GDI fuel injectors I
started thinking this might be a cool direction to go in for those
persons...

Cleaning up brushes/dope? by
Michael Horowitz
Folks -
I applied some aluminium-pigmented dope to some fabric.
Tried cleaning up with Mineral Spirits. Not satisfactory.
Cleaned up with butyrate thinner.
Don't wanna use MEK (sorta scared of it)
Anything else make a go cleaner-upper? Looking for something more
available than the butyrate...

Does anyone have Kitplanes Mag's from 1986? by

Hi Folks,
I would like to see the Kitplanes magazine from 1986 that showed Mark
Brown's Starlites on the cover. I don't know what month it is but it shows
two of them, a tailwheel version and a nosewheel version. If someone could
scan the cover and article for me and email it or loan the mag to...

Fiber alignment and twist. by
[email protected]
Howdy,
If I have a long recatangular box like a spar, and want to reduce
twisting in the long axis, is it better to lay out the fiberglass mat
with the fibers aligned at a 45 to the length, or parallel to the
length?
For the sake of argument, presume that all I'm concerned about is
twist.
