3 Free TP Task qualifies for 1,000k Diploma? by
Stewart Kissel
I know someone out there in cyberspace has this answer....
If one declares TP's in the air, or post task...can
this flight qualify for a 1,000k diploma? Or do I
misunderstand the 3 Free rules?
How would that differ from the Diamond Distance requirements?
Or does it differ?

Motorgliders burning after crashing? by
stephanevdv
I remember some pictures of a carbon fibre pure glider that caught fire
when it hit some high tension wires during an outlanding. The pilot had
time to walk away (and was luckily able to do so), but couldn't
extinguish the fire. Most of the fuselage and part of the wing burned
up. The fire was...

ELT's by
Brad
My guess is that the fatalities we saw last season are the reason ELT's
are being considered. Making contest pilots use them is the logical
first step, very clever.
I sat in the local airport restaurant for over 2 hours coordiating with
the local Police and SAR folks last spring, we were pretty...

Life extension LS6 a-b by
Stuart
I would like to make contact with clubs or owners that have had, or are
coming up to a 3000hr life extenstion requirement.
Our club owned LS6-b is about to be grounded due to a lack of a factory
inspection schedule for the 3000 hr extenstion. Despite many requests
by us, our engineer, and national...

Borgelt B100 soaring flight computer for sale by
[email protected]
I have upgraded my panel, and in order to do so removed my Borgelt B100
flight computer. It's a very nice unit; I especially appreciated the
two-in-one vario and the thermal strength graph. This unit has the GPS
receiver and antenna. Versus newer units, the pieces are bigger
(though the live...

TPAS experiences - good, bad, and ugly by
Eric Greenwell
I'd like to hear what pilots with TPAS think about them; for example:
* can you always avoid airliners and smaller airplanes?
* are these a good/lousy substitute for a transponder?
* how do they work out in the "highly congested areas" Tim mentions?
* do you wish you had a transponder anyway?
* is...

Adding Kevlar to cockpit floor or seatpan? by
Stewart Kissel
After seeing first hand the eggshell strength properties
of glass cockpits when they hit objects, I have been
thinking about how much protection I don't have between
my spine and terra-firma.
I have the astronaut foam, and otherwise it is just
the seatpan and glass. I was chatting with my...

Battery for gliders by
Udo Rumpf
I bought two Panasonic 7,2a/h batteries and I am very disappointed.
Lucky for me I had two Yuasa 7.0 a/h units, one of which was still in good
working order. I was able to get a direct comparison between the two.
Both Panasonic batteries show at least a 25% less performance compared to
Yuasa. This...

Paul Remde
Hi,
I just learned that the LX Navigation LX160 has been replaced with the new
LX160si. The new model offers very easy connection for a Colibri and a
Pocket PC. It also provides 5V power (2A) for the Pocket PC. The original
LX160 did not have that ability.
I purchased an original LX160 for my...

GPS accuracy by
[email protected]
This question is motivated by the recent discussion about deriving
polars from flight logs.
We know that GPS fixes have some amount of (absolute) error. What is
their accuracy relative to each other? In other words, when I'm
analyzing flight logs, how accurately can I calculate something like
sink...

Yaw String refference - Spinning by
Vassilios Mazis
What about the fact that we expose ourselves to 1,000,000's of
instances of instinctively responding to the string by stepping in the
direction the front end points to? Would that not lead to some kind of
conditioning that will have disasrtous results (i.e. pro-spin rudder)
when making a visual...
