Spinning the SZD 50-3 by
Tim Shea
I love to spin. It's exciting. I took aerobatic training with Wayne
Handley and was taught spin recoveries by him.
I have direct experience spinning the Puchacz at Minden. This is what
I remember from my experience. Your mileage may vary.
With friends (usually lighter than me) in the front, I spun...

SPOT GEN3 vs. GEN1? by
Tim Taylor
My trusty SPOT gen1 has developed a bad on/off switch. The GEN1 was very good and almost never missed a data point. Any reviews of the gen3 vs the origional?

Help finding an article in Soaring Magizine by
Tim Taylor
I am looking for an article that was published in Soaring on a study of differences between new and expert cross-country pilots. It was published about 20 years ago but I can't remember the title or author.

USA Proposed Rule Change on Start Time Reporting by
Tim Taylor
In the minutes of the USA Rules Committee is a proposed rules change to Start Time Reporting (see below).
I am concerned about this proposed change for several reasons.
1. The potential change was not included in any previous surveys or open to discussion other than the short comment period...

US Rules change needed for devaluation of contest day by
Tim Taylor
After the day at Moriarty earlier this year and Nephi yesterday for the 15M/Std Combined class the rules for how a day is devalued needs to be addressed. I understand why the rule was modified a few years ago so that if pilots just didn't fly it would not devalue the day, but the criteria of what...

Nice wave flights in Utah on Saturday by
Tim Taylor
There were several long wave flights in Utah on Saturday. Dan Wrobel
posted a flight of more than 700K in a Ventus B 16.6 to OLC and York
Zentner flew over 1000K in LM (ASG-29) but appears to have had a
logger failure. His spot trace will be around for a few...

Fuselage dolly with over center jack - looking for picture by
Tim Taylor
Many years ago I saw a picture of a fuselage dolly that had an over
center mechanism to raise and lower the glider. I believe it was on
two place glider. The wheels stayed in place on the ramp and the
fuselage went up and down about four inches. Anyone have a link to
the photo or know the...

Trailer Ramp Jack - NO SCREWS - follow up by
Tim Taylor
To follow up on Uncle Fuzzy's design I modified the ramp on my Pfiefer
tube trailer from the early 80's.
Images at:

I used four wheels rather than two for a little more surface area. On
real soft ground you could carry two 12"x12" pieces of...
