A thought on BRS by
Martin Gregorie
New Scientist just picked up on two cases where Cirrus SR-20 drivers
pulled the BRS trick and 5 people came down safely and walked away
without injuries. Four in one aircraft and one in another. BRS works:
good. That was about the limit of that story.
However, I took a look at the Cirrus...

LX5000 help by
Ted Wagner
Is there an FAQ or list of How-To's somewhere for the LX5000?
I've RTFM'd, but while the manual gives a decent overview of the user
interface, it doesn't go into much detail at all on how to do things like
prepare tasks and then use the LX5000 to fly tasks. When I google this I
only get references...

WTB: ASW 27A water valve by
Peter Van Camp
While I am on the waiting list for a fast dump valve from John Murray,
I would like to repair my current valve so I can fly ballasted. I am
in need of the PVC flange/water valve into which the brass flange
screws into from below the wing. Mine is cross threaded and a tap did
not help seal it. If...

A Stolen Afternoon to Yosemite by
Marry Daniel or David Grah
I took the afternoon off work today to fly my old Libelle. I left work at
1245, assembled my glider, and took off from the Bishop Airport behind
Hangar One's Husky at 1330. There was strong lift on tow and I released in
a good thermal that took me to over 13,000 feet. I flew north up the...

W.J. \(Bill\) Dean \(U.K.\).
There is disturbing news from New Zealand about the future of Omarama, where
the 1995 World Gliding Championships were hosted and considered to be one of
the most spectacular of gliding sites.
There is a proposal to develop part of the land at the eastern end of the
runway. Pilots throughout the...

Sumo wrestlers and soaring by
John0714
I am new here. Is this about gliders that are towed by airplanes etc?
I did it once when I was just a little smaller. But now I am the size of a sumo
wrestler(: Perhaps if the gliders could handle folks like us the sport might be
in better shape even if we were not:)

Thermal mapping by
John
Here is a thought:
Was in the back yard making thousands of soap bubbles (Mr. Bubbles)
for the baby. Slight breeze. Clearly could tell the entire airflow
pattern in the back yard....even a little ridge lift over the glider
trailer!
Wonder if you could add a soap bubble machine to a sailplane? ...

Blanik L-23 by
Duane Eisenbeiss
There is a new Service Bulletin on the Blanik L-23 that requires
Magnafluxing the "U" shape bracket that connects the two elevator halves.
The bracket on our ship had 3 cracks. If you have a Blanik L-23 and have
not had it checked would suggest you do so. Losing half an elevator you
might still...

Self launch effect on soaring growth by
John Jones
As more self launch sailplanes are built, what will
be the effect on soaring growth?
Will soaring clubs decline? Will self launchers disperse
to many more airports, creating more exposure?
Any thoughts?

Repairing gel coat chips by
Gary Evans
I there a way to thicken gel coat other than letting
some of the solvent evaporate? Even the thinnest commerical
gel coat is made for spraying which makes it too runny
for filling small cometic chips. The only gel coat
paste fillers I have found are an off white in color.
