MD or VA trailer/glider hangars? by
Sailplane Driver
Hi,
I am moving to Northern Virginia and am having trouble tracking down
storage space that would fit a glider and be a reasonable cost. Any
ideas? Doesn't have to be with a club but that would be ideal.
Thanks for the help,
Chris

Wally Scott's Marfa Report by
Jim Hendrix
Copies of Wally Scott's Marfa Report are still available. If you plan to
fly at Marfa with Dick Johnson or Burt Compton, then this is a must read.
In 1972 Wally Scott published this report on what to expect in the Marfa
region of SW Texas. It's 10 pages of text with a chart showing areas...

etc...), performance, handling (feel, coordination, balance, grip,

Looking for new glider by
Bill Daniels
I've sold my old glider and now I'm in the market for a new one. This time
I'm going the single-place route.
There seems to be a sweet spot in the price/performance curve when looking
at the older open class gliders like the Open Cirrus, Jantar 2 (A or B), LAK
12 etc... I haven't ruled out 15...

Schweizer 2-32 Sailplane W&B by
Hilton
Hi,
My first post to r.a.s. so go easy. :)
I've been looking through the Manual (about 15 pages) and cannot find
anything on the moment arms of the seats to use to determine the W&B. The
Manual has an envelope diagram, but how do I do the calculations without the
arms?
Thanks,

Where are the CFIG's? by
Michael
The advertisement for CFIG's recently posted, and the discussion it
spawned, made me realize something. I have yet to see a soaring club
that had enough CFIG's. I'm sure they're out there, but I bet they're
not the norm. Some have waiting lists to join if you lack a glider
rating. Some have...

Class C Ceiling by
Mzsoar
As a relatively new pilot I want to ask a question about airspace. In Southern
California we have a lot of class C airspace. The ceiling is generally 4000
ft. AGL for class C, right. Someone mentioned to me that to legally fly over
class C you must have a transponder. If not, you must be at...

500km in an Me7 in the UK -- at 80 yrs old! by
NigelPocock
Congratulations to Derek Piggott for his flight on 15th Aug in the Club Class
Nationals at Lasham.
504km in a Russia Me7 all 12.6m of it in 7hrs 14 min. He was 80 last year and
still puts the rest of us to shame with his energy and enthusiasm for gliding.
He disproves the theory about old and bold...

Oskar Vierling BSW-Variometer power connections by
Mark James Boyd
I just got one of these antique varios from New Zealand, no
less! Don't worry, I got an excellent price ;)
It looks like there are only four connections to hook
up. "A" is probably ram air. "S" is probably static.
Then there are two power wires, unmarked (uh oh).
The tape on the wires says...

Drag of LS3 compared LS3a. by
Peter Warburton
Dick Johnson found that the LS3a he tested, had a
higher sink rate over the whole polar, relative to
the LS3. He found the 'a' version to have a 6mm thicker
airfoil. Was this just a specific aircraft difference,
or are all LS3a's systematically inferior to the LS3's?
