R4N Monday Day 1 by

Buongiorno, Day 1 Recap
Buongiorno race fans. The first contest day for Region 4 N is in the bag and it was a mixed bag at that. The day started in heavy fog. While we could see the tree line across the runway, the ski hill remained obscured. Good times. Regardless the forecast looked promising...

Shooting down UAVs by
AS
https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/04/despite-objection-congress-passes-bill-that-lets-homeland-security-shoot-down-private-drones/?yptr=yahoo
I just hope that there is some kind of training involved for the guys doing the shooting so they can tell the difference between a true UAV and a glider....

vinyl wrap by
[email protected]
Greetings all, I was wondering if anyone here has any information or experience with vinyl wraps for wings, control surfaces, fuselage on sailplanes, It seems that this product would be pretty easy to use on ailerons, elevators and rudders and would be insignificant weight gains. Iknow that it is...

Help: HBV-Diamant (15m) by
Charlie M. (UH & 002 owner/pilot)
Old reply, not relevant to the question.......but, the list of peeps that rigged a 16.5 is long, the list of twice or more is rather short!
Frikkin heavy, I did it a few times at contests when younger and before I broke my back the first time!
Yes, I have rigged other heavy ships in the past........

Diamant 16.5 Part Out... by
[email protected]
A FFA Diamant 16.5 Sailplane, s/n 44, is being parted out. As a former
owner, I spent a large amount of time and money to try and repair and
restore the ship to new condition. Unfortunately, bonding problems in
the right wing proved intractable, and the restoration was abandoned
many years ago. ...

ADS-B rebate by
Tom BravoMike
This is the news from AOPA on Oct. 7, 2018: ADS-B rebate will be back again in a few days.
From the AvWeb bulletin: "As for the ADS-B rebate, it will be a repeat of the $500 incentive launched last year that did not attract much interest."

Nephi OLC 2019 by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
I think this OLC format is really showing its mettle with the number of contestants signing up.
After the the event was open to registration for 48 hrs I counted 63.
After a week it is at 73 and climbing.
Its in a good place and Bruno and his gang do a great job!
Its great fun. You can fly a...

March and April Soaring...where? by
vtcyclist
If one were to have some time for a month long road trip in March and/or April to tow their glider (DG-300) somewhere and fly, where would you suggest.. Florida, Texas and New Mexico come to mind, but I do not have soaring experience in those places. Especially that early in the year.
Other...

Cockpit video recording -- the time is now. by
Steve Koerner
I'm sick and tired of reading about glider crashes and never knowing what actually happened. We badly need to be able to learn from the misfortune of our soaring compadres.
The obvious answer is that we all have a camera mounted over our right shoulder that will simultaneously monitor the scene...

Becker AR 4201 by
John Foster
I purchased a Becker AR 4201 out of a European glider, but it didn't come with a wiring harness. Any leads on a reasonably priced one? Also interested in a more detailed installation guide/electrical diagram of the output and power supply for this radio, as I may be able to make my own wiring...

Trailer for Schweizer 1-36 by
Burt Compton - Marfa Gliders, west Texas
When Bob Ball (R.I.P) brought his his nice (never a club ship) Schweizer 1-36 to fly wave at Marfa, TX and sold it to me in 2004, he kept the home-built trailer as it was apparently a "universal" box trailer for his other sailplane.
As I contemplate selling it I'm seeking an open or closed...
