tow plane for hire by
Tim Gundersen
180 hp Super cub with experienced tow pilot for hire at your next
glider outing or special event. The tow plane performs well even at
high density altitudes. We keep our costs to a minimum in order to
make it less expensive for the glider pilots. We are based out of Las
Vegas, NV but of course are...

Thoughts on the Logan 15m Nationals by
Frank Paynter[_2_]
I have posted some thoughts (mine and Mike Shakman's) on the Logan 15m
Nationals on the Soaring Cafe site (SoaringCafe.com/Racing News/2011
15m Nationals). These thoughts have very little to do with Logan's
censorship of my posts at that contest and a lot to do with contest
management organization...

Junior Glider Headrest by
Mike Schumann
Our club's Junior has a headrest that is built into the seatpan that is
incredibly uncomfortable (at the maximum up position it hits me right
about at the shoulder blades, and pushes me forward, even with a thick
pillow on the seat back).
Are all Juniors like this? Is there a mod to the seat...

STAND DOWN by
JJ Sinclair[_2_]
Well, it's been quite a month so far, hasn't it? A 200 foot "practice"
rope break resulting in crash. A recently purchased old wooden glider
where the spoilers came open and weren't noticed except by the tow
pilot who gave the 'check your aircraft' signal and this was
misintereperted to mean...

Small logbook for Android phones by
Tiny Titles
Hey,
I made a simple logbook for glider pilots. I found the ones available
on the Android marked too complicated for my taste.
It's available from the Android Marked by searching for "Flight
Journal Lite" and it is free. Currently only English and Danish
language is available. If you want it...

Latency by
150flivver
Has anyone else noticed that it takes several days for posts to show
up in the group? As I write this on 5 August, the latest posts are
dated 1 August. This is a relatively new phenomenon as previously
posts were showing up very soon after being written.

Back-up IGC flight recorder by
Vsoars
I want to buy a back-up flight recorder. 63 invalid fixes on a long
flight has convinced me that my Volkslogger won't always record the
flight with the required accuracy. (I had the battery replaced last
year but now I am having problems on about 1 out of 4 flights. The
pattern of invalid fixes...

Uvalde RASP by
Alex[_5_]
Dear fellow soaring geeks and nerds,
I'm going to try to run a Dr. Jack "RASP" soaring forecast for Uvalde
during the Pre-Worlds.
No guarantees, but a successful run was done last night for Aug 3, 4,
and 5. It is set up for
a 2.6KM grid resolution.
If all continues to go well, I will try to make...

Westerboer Vario with electronic total energy compensation by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
I am thinking of purchasing a Westerboer 1020 vario that does not
require a total energy probe. It uses the static and pitot inputs and
calculates the total energy numbers. Now this vario costs around
$1,000 and would replace my Tasman which costs about $600. The motor
glider that I would...

Spoiler Signal by
[email protected]
Perhaps we should consider teaching that the first thought with a
sudden signal (fan, wag, rock, ...) should be check your
configuration, particularly the spoilers. It should not take more
than a second or two. If the signal really is to release, there would
be a very slight delay to pull the...

The rudder waggle signal does not work by
Pat Russell[_2_]
The towplane rudder waggle signal has done more harm than good. We
have spent at least ten years trying to educate our pilots about this
signal, and we have failed. It is time we got rid of the signal.
