Time to hang it up? by
John Sinclair[_5_]
It’s been 50 years now since I soloed in gliders at Black Forest, Co in 1971. I have logged over 5000 hours, mostly racing. Only flew one time last year due to Covid-19, but this year I found myself dreading the work involved with hooking up the trailer, driving an hour and a half, assembling,...

what is that noise? by
gregv
Hello, I fly a 1979 Nimbus 2 carbon, and since a few years I hear a cracking noise behind me. That noise occurs more often after a few hours of flight, maybe related to temperature change with altitude. You can hear the cracking noise in this...

DG-101 - increase performance/sealing/winglets(?) by
Senna Van den Bosch
I've been flying my DG-101 for a year now and really love it. However, there are some gaps which haven't been sealed and I'd like to give tuning a shot.
Does anyone have experience using aileron fences? Would it be worth using to increase handling?
My rudder has no gap sealing to transition from...

Parachutes again by

I received about a week ago 2 parachutes for repack. Nothing special
about it. But in this particular case they require special attention.
The first was made by Security Parachute Co. from San Leandro in
California. The second is a Original Softie fitted with 1965 Pioneer 4
line canopy. Now...the...

Some gliders safer than others? by
Nicholas L
Are some glider designs much safer than others? Or do certain designs put their pilots at risk for certain types of injuries during a crash?
Looking at the Libelle with the bubble canopy it makes me wonder if the glider flipped on you during a bad landing or crash if the pilot would suffer head/...

Fastest way home? by
JJ Sinclair[_2_]
The last day at Montague was spectacular, probably the best soaring day I have ever seen! After flying 7 assigned turn-points in an 8-turn (3hr) MAT, I was 45 miles out with 3500' over MC-3 glide home and the SN-10 said I would be 4 minutes over the 3 hr minimum time. My stats page told me I was...

Position Recorders, Accuracy, and Badge altitude gains by
Tony[_5_]
Leah and I are down here at Chilhowee for a VSA rally and had an enjoyable flight in the Ka7 today attempting a silver altitude gain for the highly sought after VSA Silver Coin. Unfortunately by the time we were hot, tired, hungry, in pain, and had to pee we hadn't quite made the gain. I found...

Winch Launch Stresses on Vintage Gliders by
Mike Schumann
Our club is exploring switching from aero tow to winch launching. Some of
our members own older wooden gliders and have expressed concerns about the
increased stress on the glider's structure resulting from winch launching
vs. aero tow.
Is this a valid concern?
