need Libelle wheel installed pix by
Brad[_2_]
any Libelle owners out there have pics of how the wheel assy looks
when it's bolted up to the landing gear tubes? I want to get an idea
of how the brake cable housing terminates and how the anti-rotation
pin assy works.
is the brake actuated by the airbrake pull?
thanks,
Brad

Phoebus C - why so cheap? by
jim wynhoff
A year or two ago, there was a Phoebus that sold for under $7k on
Wings and Wheels. Now there's another (without a trailer) for $7k.
How does the value of a 17 meter, 42:1 glider NOT exceed that of a
1-26? I already have a glider I love, but I still like to look at
OTHER gliders (don't tell...

O&R clarification with remote start by
chris
I wanted to clarify something about an Out & Return route.
My planned flight is for a 500k O&R. I want to use
my home airport as a remote start,
fly 10km south to turnpoint 1
fly 250km north to turnpoint 2
fly 240km south and finish at my home airport .
Does this fit the FAI sporting code for...

Updraft Speed Ranges in Different Types of Storms by
IdoMillet
Just wanted to share an interesting article found at:
http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-716.html
Here are some key figures extracted from it:
- non-severe thunderstorm: 15 to 30 MPH (1,200 - 2,500 fpm)
- severe "Multicell cluster" thunderstorms: 60 MPH (5,500 fpm)
- supercell:...

Aerotow takeoff with Cirrus, aileron rudder use by
akiley
Hi all, new forum member, new transition glider pilot as of this
spring.
I just got a checkout and have done two flights in a 1970 Standard
Cirrus that our club owns. (This Cirrus model has the full flying
elevator s/n 70 I think)
I read as much as I could find on the web, thought long and hard...

JS-1 Exhaust Vent by
sisu1a
Gotta hand it to Johan Bosman on this one... look at pg 5 of this pdf:
http://www.streckenflug.at/news/js_communication_2010_07.pdf
Personally I think his take on the exhaust vent is simply ingenious.
The opening on that thing is immense and has got to allow much air to
pass, but flow is organized...

SparrowHawk Question by
soarin
When I read FAR Part 103 it says that ultralights must have a power
off stalling speed of no more than 24 knots.
When I go to the Windward Performance web page it shows the stall
speed of the SparrowHawk as 32 knots.
How can the SparrowHawk be flown as an ultralight in the U.S.?

Parowan accident by

A sad accident, and a reminder how useless the NTSB can be when it
comes to investigating a gliding accident. We already know that the
media is useless in getting the facts right, but in this case the
media reports were correct while...
