Good news and bad news about SPOT 2 devices by
Frank[_12_]
The good news:
As has already been reported, is the new SPOT 2 devices have a nice
'check-in while tracking' feature that lets you send an OK message
while in TRACK mode. The OK message temporarily interrupts the TRACK
message mode, sends the message, and goes back to tracking.
The new SPOTs...

Glider pilot and ME 163 Komet Pilot Rudy Opitz Has Died by
Paul Remde
Sad news,
I just learned from avweb.com that glider pilot and ME 163 rocket test pilot
Rudy Opitz has died. He was a remarkable man.
He also flew a Horton flying wing glider to victory in a U.S. soaring
contest many years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting him after a talk he
gave at an SSA...

John Lubon (JL) was telling me that there was a glider that crashed on
the main ridge near Altoona. II heard that the pilot was carrying a

When did the OLC rules change on submission? by
Tim Taylor
Just went to post a flight on OLC and I am too late only two days
after the flight. When did the rules change from three days to
Tuesday at midnight? If you fly on Monday or Tuesday you must submit
by midnight on Tuesday or not get scored, Very unreasonable change to
the system.

scattering ashes from SGS 2-33 by
thing73
We have a request from a family member to scatter ashes from a
recently deceased member. I know this type of operation can be
problematic if not performed correctly. Any ideas about using the
back window of a SGS 2-33???

Placards by

I know there has been several threads on making new glider placards to
replace old, hard to read ones. However, I think I have just found
something new that might be the best idea yet.

Interesting gap seal by
ryanglover1969[_2_]
Friend of mine just bought John Seymour's Ventus 2 and it had a canopy
seal that was fixed to the edge of the canopy behind the pilot's
head...It operated like a mylar seal and that's probably the best way
to describe it... but it wasn't mylar. Is anyone familiar with this
set up? Anyone know where...

Soaring-Gliding Camp by

Hi folks. I'am from Turkey. I interested about sport aviation for 3-4
years, still interesting.Especially soaring.
But in Turkey there is only ONE aviation club about soaring. It's
founded at 1923 (yeah old :) ) And it's only accepting 100-150
students in summer months. All trainings are free, but...
