Dick Johnson is gone. by
Burt Compton - Marfa
July 23, 2008
I just received a telephone call from a reliable source that Dick
Johnson has crashed at the combined World Class / 1-26 Nationals at
Midlothian, Texas (south of Dallas). He was flying as sniffer.
Apparently he dove-in after release from tow. My source reports that
Dick has...

Decent Flight by

I had a pretty good flight last Saturday. Was on pace to fly another
120-150 miles, but overflew the conditions and ran into the stagnant
remains of an old front that had been infecting the pahandle region
for several...

IGC file from Torrey Pines? Please. by
CindyB
Friends:
I need a logger file for a flight that lands at Torrey Pines, CA.
This does NOT need to be from a secure logger, any GPS log file would
do.
If this can come tonight, whhooee, you are my hero.
Thanks,
Cindy B

Cobra Trailer Tires (US) by
RN
The tires on my Cobra trailer from the factory are marked

They appear to be GT Radial Max Miler X
Load Range D 1875 lb at 450KPA 65# cold
They need to be replaced, and the local tire stores seem to be having
an issue identifying the correct replacement. A brief web search...

Limiting battery drain by using what? by
joesimmers
I recently built a small fan system to dry my wing tanks.
It is 12 volt and runs off of a 9 amp hour glider battery.
I thought that when the battery would get down to about 9 volts
that the fan would stop, this is not the case, the fan keeps working
till
the battery is down into the 5 volt...

How well polished does a glider need to be? by
Dan G
I'm crewing this season, and no doubt my pilot will be expecting me
out at 7am with Mer in hand.
My question is (and I'm sure it's been debated before, I did search,
but want fresh input) how worthwhile is polishing?
I can understand keeping the fuselage as slippery as possible to
reduce skin...

Thermal Prediction for the Masses from April 1982 Soaring by
Papa3
Hi,
Does anyone have a copy of the above article scanned? It was by
Jerry Gibbs and provided a non-technical approach to understanding a
SkewTLogP chart. I had my own xeroxed copy (so 1980's), but I can't
find it right now.
TIA

GPS reception today by
Brad[_2_]
I got all my cables today to hook the GPS and the PDA up.
But...........this evening, here in WA state I have not been able to
get a good lock on any satellites.
Anyone else have any problems with their GPS today?
Just curious.
