Microair 760 by
Ian K
Anybody got any hints or tips on setting up a Microair
760?
I have an eltec(?) mic from svsp that was recommended,
but the transmission is reported as low and distorted.Have
tweaked the mic gain pot, but doesn't seem to make
any difference. Batt voltage around 12.5v.

Cloud Flying/ R. Barry by
Shawn Knickerbocker
It is a personal preference ….just like flying ridge,
wave, etc…and personal selection that some may want…if
it is not your choice, by all means do not do it….
It does result in a tremendous amount of altitude in
a short period…take practice and qualifications, just
like other aviation...

LS-4 to LS-4a conversion by
Dan Peters
Our LS-4 (S/n 4093) was supposedly converted to an
LS-4 in the 1980's. A logbook entry was made about
the gear mod and the new bags put in.
I was talking to another local pilot with an LS-4 and
he says that the logbook entry isn't sufficient, that
our S/N has to be on some list. Anyone know...

Camebridge M Nav by
alice
I have an old M nav which I am considering having serviced by the
Camebrige dealer in the UK. Has anyone in the US sent an instrument to
Dickie Feaks in the UK from the US? Any hassles involved? Also, this is
an old instrument and I am considering if the money to service it would
be better spent on...

UK medical requirements for US glider pilots... by
Marc Ramsey
I'll be in the UK (Cambridge) in late September for a conference, and am
thinking about heading over there early for some flying. I have a US
PPL Glider, but not a US medical, which is not required for gliders.
Will I need a US or UK medical validation to fly solo in the UK? Any
other formal...

Navman PiN 570 - PDA/Navigation Portable Handheld Device by
Doug Haluza
Has anyone used the Navman PiN 570 - PDA/Navigation Portable Handheld
Device in a glider with PDA navigation software? These have now dropped
below $250 in the US and may be a better deal than a used iPAQ now. It
comes with a built in GPS, cradle and gooseneck. It runs WM2003 and has
a 266 MHz ARM...

glider trailer Q by
Steve Leonard
Wonder what kind of 'low rider' trailer you are running
that cannot get a bottle jack under the side of it
with a flat tire on the trailer? Or maybe you needed
to buy a smaller bottle jack?
Two important tips. ALWAYS loosen the lug nuts before
jacking. And I would recommend placing the jack...

a pair or $10.50 if you buy three or more pairs. They carry four

Good information & discussion…It is not as hard as
someone can make it…a few small issues…I also talk
with the local TRACON..so they are aware of myself
& intentions….Also, airplane drivers know this…no airplane
pilot in his right state of mind will fly through a
towering Cu!. A Cu under...

Backup Flight Data Recorder? by
Fox Two
Hello All,
I'm new to racing, and I have a new D-2b on order from Germany. I'm
considering installing a backup Flight Data Recorder (FDR) to my
Cambridge 302, and I'm curious to see how many other competition pilots
choose to have a backup FDR as well. What kind of backup FDRs do...

Cloud Flying by
Shawn Knickerbocker
2 methods I teach.. the straight thermal method..which
is basically, receive your clearance, O2 on and thermal
up into the cloud….when dealing with larger and high
developing Cu’s, the seek & go method is preferred.
This is basically fly through the cloud, exit the opposite
side, complete a 180 &...

Cloud Flying by
Shawn Knickerbocker
Technically….the transponder is the only required test
needs to be adhering to for a sailplane. Since a sailplane
conducting IFR /IMC flight is never level…furthermore,
FAR 91 pitot static checks only apply to airplanes
& helicopters operating in controlled airspace….
However, I recommend...
