The not-so-noisy jet Silent by
Howard Banks
Those of us who have actually heard Bob Carlton's jet-powered
Silent in the air can tell you that once it is off
the ground and more than a few hundred feet away that
it is a lot quieter than conventional motor gliders
such as the DG 400 or 800.When being run up on the ground and up close it...

windows 7, OLC and Cambridge by
Howard Banks
I am having a problem using the OLC convertor program that is supposed to
convert Cambridge files to a standard acceptable to OLC. It worked fine
on my now-dead XP laptop, but won't do anything on my new W7 machine.
Any suggestions?

OLC 2006 by
Howard Banks
Yes, Albuquerque Soaring was first in the US for the
second year
in a row (and third in the world club rankings in 2005,
one place
better than the year before). And yes, the ridge bashers
are off
to a flying start -- but then we like to give them
a bit of a start.
Just for encouragement.
And yes I...

15M EU championship by
Howard Banks
Old as in France and Germany, as in hide-bound. New
as in new entrants to EU, full of vim and vigour.
Retract on tow is normal enough, but not at approx
18 inches off the ground, at least not in my book.

GPS interference testing by
Howard Banks
When you call for Notams, as I understand it you must
ask specifically if there is anything slated for GPS
testing, otherwise you will not be told what's up.
For those who want to see what can happen please look
at my flght log for 16 May on OLC. The test not only
screwed up the gps instrument, it...

New member so bare with me, but PW5, how does she fly? by
Howard Lau
I'm a rather new glider pilot and I am about to fly on the PW5 as my instructor deems me to be competent after training on the G103, I've seen photos and the glider seems small and the wingspan is only 10 meters or so, so I was wondering how she flies. Any PW-5 experiences?
Thanks!
Happy gliding!

Help using tablet to transfer files to OLC by
[email protected]
I have just acquired a Toshiba tablet and was hoping to use it as means to transfer log files to OLC. Seems that there is a problem between the files I now successfully put on a flash drive and use my laptop to send to OLC; something to do with the tablet working on a different format.

reply from Erwin Salzinger by

I don't think Erwin read the part about not being funny, John, and
what he wrote was most funny. I didn't think Germans could be funny.
Except my grandfather, who liked to dance around in his underwear
after consuming large quantity of beer. Growing up in Miami with no
air condition and...

Would someone get in touch with the scorer at the 1-26 Nationals and
see if he can't add a "total" column to the score sheet. The contact
email address on the contest website is missing. Thanks

....what about older 121.5 ELT's by
hretting
Good question on the Transponder below this thread which leads me to
ponder.....
any good at all leaving the old ELT in until I switch over to the new
( ya...I know....procrastination(?)) system?
I'm thinking of SPOT....how about SPOT+old ELT, or if I get SPOT,
would a new ELT be necessary.
