Auto Towing 2 Place Gliders by
[email protected]
Does anyone know of an operation in the U.S. regularly doing auto tows
with 2 place gliders?
(especially Blaniks or Grob 103s)
I am looking for feasability, realistic tow heights acheived, vehicle
requirements etc.
I will be operating from a 4600 foot paved runway.
Any information would be helpful.

Auto Towing a 1-26 by
[email protected]
I'm a new glider pilot looking at purchasing a 1-26.
I'm looking at gaining the flights and experience to get the Commercial Glider and adding the CFI-G to my existing CFI-A.
I envision doing auto tows at my local 3200ft airport. I'll hopefully be getting to 600AGL to just do laps around the...

Auto Towing the LVVSA G103 (YouTube video) by
jim wynhoff
The Spring 2012 LVVSA Auto - Tow weekend was, as always, tons of fun!
Auto and Aero tows from Roach Dry Lakebed, between Jean and Primm NV,
in actual soaring conditions! We had the usual great food, bonfire,
and camaraderie. Keith W. made an exceptional batch of dark
chocolate, mint chip ice...

Auto-retracting spool for auto-towing gliders? by
Luke Scharf
Does anyone know of auto-towing gear that will automatically retract the rope the glider releases?
My club has just moved to a new airport, which has a runway long enough for auto-towing. However, we'd like to be able to clean up the runway quickly -- preferably while the tow vehicle is still...

Auto-Towing - why is this not more popular? by
Sean Fidler
I had an interesting conversation with a pal about auto-tow glider launching method recently. It seems academic really.
When cost is considered, auto-towing has to be far more affordable than even winching. Maybe $1.50 per tow, max? In aviation, the cost is always critical. Especially in...

Autoconnect water ballast valve kit by
Bob Kuykendall
I'm gearing up to make a couple sets of water ballast release valves for HP-24 kits, and I'm curious if there might be any interest in them as retrofits for other gliders.
I've seen some really goofy setups where you have to manually connect hoses inside the fuselage, with awkward arrangements of...

automated flap setting by
Wallace Berry[_2_]
A prototype automated flap system was mentioned in the recent Duckhawk
discussion.
My question: Given that our manual flap settings cannot be optimal, how
much real-world improvement in climb and cruise could be gained with an
automated flap system that always has the flaps at their optimal...

Automatic Parachutes by
John DeRosa Sky Soaring Chicago IL
I was looking at my new-to-me glider on Saturday and noticed a 1" hole
just over the pilot's left shoulder with a red stripe painted above
it. See http://www.dg-flugzeugbau.de/grosse-piloten-e.html for a
picture of the hole.
We stood around and pondered what the hole was for. No one had much
of...

Automatic Parachutes & Retrofitting by
John DeRosa Sky Soaring Chicago IL
Please see my other thread on "Automatic Parachutes" in which I argue
that an automatic (static line) parachute is a good thing (except
maybe in the Andes!).
So here I sit owning a non-automatic parachute (a Strong 305). Can it
be converted to an automatic parachute? Can I simply add a...

Warning... this is an unabashed plug for a new product developed by
Swift Avionics in Australia.
I have a vested interest in this company so am declaring my
involvement up-front.
However, if you run any sort of gliding club, you'll find a quick
visit to our website enlightening.

Autonomous undersea gliders (no kidding!) by

These amazing vehicles really are undersea gliders.
