Airfield Ratings in Turnpoint list naming convention by
[email protected]
I will be updating my local turnpoint list soon, I was wondering if someone has already worked out a system of turnpoint naming for landable places that might be short, narrow or somehow useful for some gliders but not 18m+ etc.
It would be nice to include fields or ultralight runways etc that you...

Airlines running fuel margins thin by
[email protected]
Heres a report from WABC that apparently aired on Good Morning America
this morning:
http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=local&id=5747236
appears the airlines are using minimum fuel as much as possible to
reduce fuel burns and costs. Seems to me that some good glider
experience could become...

airparks with gliders? by
tienshanman
Does anyone know of nice, residential airparks in good soaring areas that would be accommodating of gliders? Western US, Northeast US, whatever.....I need to come back to the US and find a soarable place to live, without having to commute to an airfield.

Airplane pilots don't bother looking out... by
5Z
"Flying over the white cliffs of Dover, the two pilots of a Gulfstream
450 jet keep their eyes glued to a flight-deck display, ignoring the
almost cloudless sky over the southern coast of England on their
descent to a nearby...

Airplanes and Conveyor Belts - Mythbusters by
ContestID67
Question: Can a conventional powered airplane take off from a conveyor
belt which is moving at the same speed but in an opposite direction?
I was surprised at people's range and passion of answers when I asked
this of my glider club. People were absolutely sure it wouldn't work
or it would work....

Airport Access Denied? by
GARY BOGGS
We are having trouble at our airport. Our airport, here in Oregon,
USA, is owned by The Port of Hood River, and is federally funded.
It’s a small, uncontrolled airport and on a busy day, probably has
about a dozen non glider flights. We generally fly our gliders on the
windy days, and have the...

Airport in Walpole VT? by
Dave Nadler
I was putzing around in wave yesterday and noticed what
appears to be a nice airport not on the chart.
East from Bellow Falls. Anybody know this one?

airport layouts that minimize time-on-runway by
[email protected]
Our glider club has good relations with our home airport. The airport
manager is creating a master plan for renovations of runways and
taxiways, and is receptive to ideas that will help create smoother
operations for mixed power and sailplane traffic. One of the key goals
is to minimize the time...

Airport Waiver? by
James Hamilton[_2_]
Just curious. I was reading info on the Perry contest and in the "Contest
Information" (SSA website) it states that one must
send in a "Perry Airport Waiver" with their entry. What is a "PAW"
(besides a dog's foot, my old man, etc.)?

Airports databases in LX instruments by
Tuno
I've been browsing the available documentation and LX's web site, but
I'm unable to figure out how the .LXA airport database files (such as
are used by my LX7007) are created.
I've learned how to use the LXasBrowser tool to create LX airspace
files (CU binary format) -- it's a great tool because I...

Airports that have oxygen by
Doug Levy
Last year while motor gliding the western states I had trouble finding airports that can fill my oxygen bottle. I did get fills at Ely, Minden, and Inyokern. Do you know of places that can help out a visiting pilot?

Airshow season is over by
Bob C
Well, the 2006 airshow season is over. I've burned
over 400 gallons of jet-A this summer and there is
no doubt that the twin-jet glider is the most fun aircraft
I've ever flown. Thanks to all the guys at AMT-USA
for their support, and a big thanks to all the airshow
volunteers and sponsors without...

Airsickness by
Jim Kelly
Greetings!
I have been plagued by airsickness. Struggled with it during
training but the flights were short and it did go away to some
extent, especially when I made a point of eating fresh ginger
daily.
Now that I am attempting longer flights it is bugging me again.
It seriously spoils the fun...

airsickness prescription by
Wallace Berry[_2_]
Seems like very few people in the U.S. have heard of it, but the most
effective prescription med for airsickness that I have found is
something called "Scopace". It is scopolamine in tablet form. Same drug
as in the very expensive anti-nausea patches. Much cheaper in tablet
form and the dose is...
