Becker AR4201 transmit volume low by John Foster
I just installed a Becker AR4201 that I picked up used from the UK (frequency spacing change from 25 to 8.33). I have it paired with a Peiker TM 170 I got from W&W based on their compatibility statements on the website. It will transmit voice, but it is extremely soft/quite and the receiver needs...

1-26 Price by John Foster
Has anyone noticed the trend lately on price for a SGS 1-26? The prices seem to be going through the roof! Most of the recent offerings on W&W are over $8K, and many $10K+. I get that many have had a lot of hours put in restoring them and updating instruments, but really... Just a year or two...

The Decline of Soaring Awards by John Foster
I read the recent article in Soaring and it has got me fired up. I have been a member of a small club in Washington State for the last 2 years, learning to fly. The club has a 2-33 and a Lark and a Pawnee. That's it. Badge flying has not been an emphasis, even though one qualifies for at...

Mecaplex canopy window lube by John Foster
What is the best way to lube the sliding window in a Mecaplex canopy? Mine is a bit stiff, and I don't want to break it by using too much force. It will slide, but stiffly.

Affordable Oxygen by John Foster
I was given an older MH EDS unit to install in my Phoebus glider which I got for a song and am restoring. The glider has a bracket for the oxygen tank, but no tank is installed. The bottom is a rounded fiberglass cup, and there is a flip bracket to go around the neck. It sits behind the seat pan...

Schempp-Hirth gliders for sale on W&W by John Foster
Has anyone else noticed how many Discus 2 and Ventus 2 gliders have been coming up for sale lately on W&W? Is this because of folks moving up to the new V3, or is there some other reason?

E-glide Pavullo results? by John Foster
I've been interested in following the results of the recent E-glide contest.. I've looked at the site website, but it does not seem to list the results. There are numerous YouTube videos of the live tracking, but without commentary. I have yet to see a website that lists the daily results in a...

Cambridge CPT 505 Variometer by John Foster
I'm in the process of building a new instrument panel in my glider and am at the point of hooking it all back up. When I have the power cable plugged in to the back of the CAI CPT 505 and turn the power on, the needle deflects to -10kt, and if I switch it to 2x, then the needle deflects to -5kt. ...

K8b restoration by John Foster
I was given a junked K8b due to water damage to the wood at the wing root and multiple tears in the original fabric and chipped/peeling paint. However, it looks like it may be restorable (worth it, that's another story). Anyway, I'm interested to know if there is an online repair manual that lays...

Old W&W add--cancelled, not renewed by John Foster
If there is a listing that I'm interested in that is now moved to the "Cancelled Not Renewed" tab, how can I contact the seller? There is no longer a contact option for the add. I've tried looking up the N-number, but all I get is a physical address. I guess I could write a letter the...

Computer set-up for Condor 2 by John Foster
Any recommendations for where to get/what computer to get that would run Condor 2 well. Also thinking of trying Oculus Rift with it at some point. Don't want to spend a whole lot of money on this though. Thanks.

Smart Phone Software by John Foster
What have you guys found to be the best "flight computer" app for a smart phone or tablet? Ive tried using iGlide for the iPhone (basic version), but it doesn't seem to have the functionality of a true flight computer where you can input a task, turn points, etc. Do I just need to upgrade to the...

Becker AR 4201 by John Foster
I purchased a Becker AR 4201 out of a European glider, but it didn't come with a wiring harness. Any leads on a reasonably priced one? Also interested in a more detailed installation guide/electrical diagram of the output and power supply for this radio, as I may be able to make my own wiring...

iGlide by John Foster
I just recently downloaded the "lite" version to play around with, and so far it is OK. However, I'm curious if some of the features I would like in it are just things that are in the higher level version like the "advanced" or "pro" version. For instance, when I look at the flight log, it...

Hi everyone I just started glider flying lessons and I'M HOOKED!!! Unfortunately, the closest glider club is 3:45 hr drive away. I also live in an area that looks to me to be perfect for ridge soaring, with a range of mountains facing the west that runs for at least 85 miles, and possibly...
