Gary Mitchell is a ****in' Freak!!!! by Brad
Hey Gary, now that's the way to extend your flight time.....and be comfortable! Five hours was my limit in my old Sensor 510 with a Bennet pod (I am dating myself here...:o) Of course I did not drink anything either. This was back in the days of B.C. (Before Camelbacks) Blue skies!

Super Dimona Motorglider in Soaring magazine feb 2004 by Mark James Boyd
Interesting article. Too bad (for US pilots) it uses the "despised in the US" rotax engine. But this is a real favorite in Europe, I'm told. CFR 61.69(a)(1) requires tow pilots to "Holds at least a private pilot certificate with a category rating for powered aircraft." Perhaps the last 7 words...

Thin flexible solar panels by Eric Greenwell
I've come across some thin (0.008 inches), flexible solar panels that look like they'd be ideal for gliders. These are the PowerFilm 7.2V 100mA ($30) units, with and without adhesive on the back: http://store.sundancesolar.com/pow72v100maf1.html So, $120 would buy me 4 panels, which would give me...

Hey "Go Gliding" campaign....got a question by Gary Adams
The promo is a great idea, nice graphics and all. Love the ASH-25 pic.........just one question. Why did you use a picture from Australia? Not a slam on Australian soaring, but isn't the intent to promote U.S. Soaring and get people's butts in gliders here? No suitable American scenes, pictures of...

PowerFlarm at Uvalde? by Dave Hoppe[_2_]
I find it odd that there's no posts regarding the first-time use of PowerFlarm in a US contest. Surely they're all flying with them.

I know there are electric powered sailplanes but by YouHelpBuild.com
How about 100% electric powered ultralights? What problems can anyone forsee to building a 100% electric ultralight aircraft for short & mid-range commuters to get back & forth to work (aside from air traffic issues... it IS a big sky after all)? I understand the average commute is less than 30...

stowing horizontal stabilizer on tail boom in trailer by [email protected]
I have seen a glider trailer in which the aircraft's horizontal stabilizer is strapped to the glider's tail boom for storage and transport. I can't recall where I saw this, and a google image search did not yield any hits. At any rate, strapping the horizontal stabilizer to the tail boom is one...

Micro Air transmission-garbled by [email protected]
We installed a new Micro Air in a sailplane. This is the 5th one we have installed. All have worked great except this last one receives perfectly, but when transmitting it sounds garbled. The boom mic is a Micro Air. Anyone have an idea what this could be? Thanks Kurt

PCC Presentation by Jim Vincent
With all the talk about doing a PCC, I thought I'd post a presentation I just did at Tom Knauff's Safety Seminar last weekend. I know I posted this deep in the thread on PCC, but just wanted to give it more visibility for those who did not follow the thread. The presentation covers PCC, CAC,...

FLARM firmware release schedule by Andy[_1_]
This may be of interst to those who have ordered PowerFLARM: http://flarm.net/support/updates/index_en.html This part is very worrying to me: "When is the next scheduled service update due? Since its creation FLARM has maintained scheduled updates, initially in a one year cycle, in 2006 a two...

Long Tow Rope Pros & Cons by chris
Janusz Kesik )wrote of using 30m tow ropes as standard and 20m for experienced pilots in Poland. In the US I'm accustomed to being aerotowed behind a 150 to 200 foot tow rope. However my club has been experimenting with using a longer rope: 275ft. This struck me as...
