Boeing Fuel Cell Plane Flies At Last! by sisu1a
Here is a link to an article about the first manned fuel cell flight. It has been in the works for some time, and wonderful to see it coming to fruition: http://www.gizmag.com/first-manned-fuel-cell-plane-flight/9117/ For those who don't know, Boeing converted a Dimona motorglider to have an...

Questions on NiMH Batteries by Dan Marotta
I'm considering replacing the lead-acid tail battery in my LAK-17a with NiMH batteries. I find D cells rated at 1.2v 10 Ah which would be ideal to build up a 12v 10 Ah pack. I've already checked fitment in the sealed battery box using alkaline D cells. Can anyone tell me if these batteries...

ELT's by Dick[_3_]
A couple of years ago there was talk of denying entry in to contests all gliders that were not equipped with ELT's. I immediatly ordered a 121.5 / 406 Mhz model. It came the other day, a year and a half later. It includes a clunky antenna that would have to be mounted outside of a carbon hull. ...

Sailplane Glider Decal by The Stick and Rudder
I am selling sailplane decals that can be put on your car windshield, inside or out; put on your cars body; stuck on a wall, locker, trailer, binder, briefcase; anywhere you'd like to put it. I have mine on my car trunk. Through snow, rain, freezing cold, extreme heat, salt on the roads, the...

Transponder petition by Ian Cant
Wish we'd had this discussion before the SSA drafted its petition. Seems to me the petition is unsatisfactory because it is confusing or poor law, it does not address the full set of transponder issues, and it just might open up an adverse review of our existing exemption. To address these...

Libelle Web Site by f.blair
I have been working to get the Libelle site back up. Due to a computer crash and at the same time an ISP that went out of business, I lost most of the files that made up the site. I have recreated what I could, but need help from the Libelle community to get all the information updated. ...

Glider power systems by Bill Daniels
After reading the annual installment of the 12V vs.14V soap opera and the "We can't power any more electronics" whine, I took a little time to read the Maxwell Electronics information on their Ultracaps. See: http://www.maxwell.com/index.html Maxwell makes a pretty good case for combining a small...

Dittel FSG-71M LCD by Marc Ramsey
I have a circa '92 Dittel FSG-71M in a newly purchased glider which works fine, except that the LCD is in bad shape. The digits are barely readable due to lack of contrast, the LCD glass looks to have sustained some sort of damage. Has anyone replaced one of these? Marc

Which bird thermals the best? by Scott Alexander[_2_]
So in a recent conversation with a greatly experienced soaring pilot, I was told that Buzzard's have terrible thermaling skills. I tend to agree with this as it sure seems Buzzards don't get into the core and stay there. The lesson learned was don't let Turkey Buzzard show you where the core is,...

Why no "situational awareness" (collision avoidance) apps for cell phones? by WB
Smart phones can talk to each other (through the cell system, duh) and they have substantial computing power. They have GPS so they know where they are, how high they are, and how fast they are going. We know they can output and receive that data in flight because we use them to track our gliders...
