FAA Permanently Revokes Pilot's License over ADS-B by Semantics Michael
Power pilot accused of intentionally turning off ADS-B out to cloak a different infraction (flying under a bridge). This was not a license suspension, it was a life-time revocation by the FAA (After 60yrs of flying, she'll have to start over from scratch). Pilot acknowledges the bridge incident...

Where are the CFIG's? by Michael
The advertisement for CFIG's recently posted, and the discussion it spawned, made me realize something. I have yet to see a soaring club that had enough CFIG's. I'm sure they're out there, but I bet they're not the norm. Some have waiting lists to join if you lack a glider rating. Some have...

O2 cylinder by HL Falbaum
Does anyone out there in r.a.s. land know how to get a German Oxygen cylinder recertified to DOT specifications, and a place to get it done? I think it is out of date, and I got I with the glider, a DG800B. It appears to be in good shape-no dings or scratches. It has no DOT cert number on the neck,...

Sparrowhawk handling by Hartley Falbaum[_2_]
Is the Sparrowhawk handling suitable for a low time glider pilot who flies infrequently? How is pitch and roll sensitivity compared to say, a Discus B? One of our club members seems to have a big problem staying in position on tow. He does just OK in a K21. I need to know how to help him or...

Cobra trailer wiring diagram by Tuno
Is there a softcopy someone can send me? ... or any helpful reference? The running lights on my 2002 Cobra work properly but I get strange results with the turn signals, testing with three different tow vehicles. Are there any caveats I should be aware of in using 6-way-round to 4- way-flat and...

FLAPS by skysailor
I have approximately 110 hours in sailplanes in the past 2 years and had no prior experience. I am evaluating used gliders for purchase. The big kahuna's in the club are pretty adamant about purchasing a first glider without flaps. My question is: Are flaps that big a problem for a low time pilot...

What happens if a sailplane has no horiz stabilizer or elevator? by Mark James Boyd
There are some designs which have no horizontal stab: flying wings for example. There are also canard setups (the speed canard, for example). For a sailplane, I was thinking about how one might design away the typical T-tail stabilizer and elevator. First of all, how much dynamic stability does...

Tire Stiffness & trailer swaying - resolution by chris
Here is the feedback on my trailer towing problem. I thought I'd make a detailed write up to share what I learned with others. I was waiting until I gave a real towing trip as proof that this fix worked. I recently drove from Atlanta up to the Sequatchie Valley in TN. This included highway...

The aerodynamics of a towplane in a kiting glider situation by Tom BravoMike
I know there is a thread going on about and around the latest tragic accident from 5-9-2020 and I preferred to start a new thread as I felt uncomfortable going into a dry technical discussion in the context. So the issue is: I would like to know more about the aerodynamics of the towplane in all...

Glider Purchase Procedure - Annual & Pre Purchase Inspection? by NMD
Hello, I am closing in on my first glider purchase and have narrowed it down to three. What is a safe purchase procedure for an older glider? Two are LS3's and one is an LS3A. All have been refinished in PU. Is a new annual sufficient or it is advisable to have a pre-purchase inspection as...

Panel volt meter by Bob C
I just found a really nice panel volt meter. It is 7/8' X 1-3/4' X 1/8'. Weighs nothing. It needs a single 7/32' hole for mounting. The wires run through the single hollow mounting stud to the rear of the panel. Really slick! 2 wires (+V & ground). Reads 4V to 25V. It's from Lascar...

Soaring through White Sands restricted airspaces by tuno
I don’t have the latest Albuquerque sectional in front of me, but according to my SeeYou maps, the R-5107D restricted airspace over White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico goes from the ground to 22,000ft, and R-5107B (adjacent to the west) goes from the ground to the moon, both continuous...
