WAAS GPS vario? by
kirk.stant
Is anyone working on or studying using WAAS GPS data to make a stand-
alone vario? How would TE be implemented in such a device? Ground
speed change during a pullup? TAS based on circling winds?
Do the current PDA software programs (mSeeYou, Winpilot, etc.) when
used in GPS-only mode provide...

FAA Permanently Revokes Pilot's License over ADS-B by
Semantics Michael
Power pilot accused of intentionally turning off ADS-B out to cloak a different infraction (flying under a bridge). This was not a license suspension, it was a life-time revocation by the FAA (After 60yrs of flying, she'll have to start over from scratch). Pilot acknowledges the bridge incident...

Favourite quotes about flying by
David Starer
Here are two of my favourite quotes about flying; what are yours?
1. Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
Douglas Adams
2. Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The
edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground,...

Ultralight sailplane aerotow liability by
Caracole
We recently had a pilot show up and ask if we would aerotow him in his
Sparrow Hawk. Our first question was to ask if the glider was
licensed. His reply was that it was not required to be licensed. Our
second question was if he had insurance on the glider. He replied by
asking if insurance was...

Has anyone gotten a response from Centrair on Pegasus parts? by
tooromeo
I have sent to Emails to Centrair to get pricing info on the parts needed
for the AD's. I received one message that described the cost for the hinge
pins and rivets.
I haven't heard anything else from them about wiring money over there to
purchase the parts. Does anyone have their wiring...

Color Platforms for Top Hat/XCSoar by
[email protected]
What color devices are pilots using for Top Hat/XCSoar? I'm running Top Hat on a Kobo Glo (large eink gray scale--great readability) and a Dell Streak 5 (smaller screen, color, acceptable readability). If the Dell were a little brighter and larger, it would be perfect.
Options seem to range from...

Front Electric Sustainer by
Greg Arnold[_3_]
I see that the webpage now has pictures of the latest design, with a
bigger prop, and a more streamlined attachment to the spinner. Also a
video of it running at Aero.
After the flight tests this summer, it will be interesting to get
information about its real world climb rate and...

Clear Yaw string tape? by
Bruno
I have seen a few gliders that had yaw strings attached with something
other than the white tape most of us use. It was either a clear tape
or clear sticker. If any of you use something other than the white
tape to attach your yaw string please share what you use. Thanks!

Importing AVIONIC glider trailer - what a pain by
[email protected]
Well, I have imported a glider and a trailer from Europe. The trailer
is Avionic. It has a plate that states the trailer meets federal
regulations in effect as of the date of manufacture. The customs
officer wants a document stating that the vehicle meets federal
standards. I am confused. Isn't the...

4th July Independence Day Message to the US by
Derek Copeland
A recent UK Parliamentary Committee, who are definitely
not revolutionary hotheads, concluded that the so called
'War on Terrorism', far from curing the problem, is
actually stoking up further terrorist problems, with
our own indigenous young Muslims being sufficiently
radicalised as to become...

Quiet Vent by
Ron (RW)
Some months ago, I read a post from a John Morgan, Minden NV. He was
developing a gadget that was to diminish noise from the clearvision
panel vent. I think he called it the Quiet Vent. Any further word on
his venture? Any contact info? THNX Ron W (RW)

Collision Avoidance Systems by
jcarlyle
Last week, before the Minden midair, I reviewed Collision Avoidance
Systems with the intent of putting one in my transponder-less ASW-19. I
was interested in such a system because my glider club lies inside the
Mode C veil of PHL, because an active military air base is 5 miles
away, and because...

How to do a Positive Control Check? by
ContestID67
A recent accident (disconnected aileron) got me thinking about
positive control checks. I searched the RAS archives and didn't find
any details on how people do this.
I was trained by my CFIG, like most of you I hope, to do a positive
control check every day. Actually it was more like it was...
