Runway demolition at Meigs continues by
David Reinhart
The demolition of the runway at Meigs continued this morning, starting
at about 0630. I knew something was about to happen because the Alder
Planetarium camera has been off-line for a while. So long, Meigs.
We'll miss you.

Run-in with Chicago Center by
Jay Honeck
So I'm on my way home from Green Bay today (where Monday night my son and I
saw his first pro-football game, and my first game at Lambeau Field), and
the weather is fairly crappy.
By noon conditions had risen to VFR along our route of flight (KGRB to
KIOW -- Iowa City, IA), with ceilings in Green...

Outside reference in IMC by
[email protected]
I fly in the southeastern US, nearly always under IFR, in a complex
sel. In reading other threads it's pretty clear that some others who
post here don't understand what IMC means. I mostly hand fly, and I'm
guessing 30% or more of my IMC flying is using the outside horizon,
with occasional glances...

Bad Week for Airbus by
Phil
On top of last week's A340 incident, now an A330 experienced a sudden
depressurization on a shakedown flight. Among the injuries to
passengers were spinal injuries. Sounds like the pilot may have
abruptly dived the aircraft while some passengers were still standing
in the aisle. Or would people...

Icing conditions by
Mxsmanic
From what I understand, icing protection should be turned on if the
outside temperature is 5° C or less. However, what is the reason for
not having it on all the time? Does it overheat in normal weather, or
what?
I read that turning on icing protection before "sufficient ice has
accumulated" may...

What essentials do you always have on board? by
Mxsmanic
What things do you consider it essential to always have on board for
every flight? Not just things required by law, but things that you
personally believe in having on the aircraft before you leave the
ground.

Help me write 25 Aviation Trivia Questions! by
Jay Honeck
I need some suggestions for aviation trivia questions, pronto! Who better
but you guys and gals to ask, no? :-)
Why? We've decided to do a month-long radio contest in January, on our most
popular local radio station, promoting our aviation theme inn. It's going
to be called "the '100th...

Ouch!!! Wet rates keep going up! by
[email protected]
The hourly rate on all of the planes in my flying club just went up
again (second time in a year).
Archer II's just went up by another $10 per hour. Flying rates in the
past 6 years have gone up by a factor of 1.6 times yet I am still
making the same salary I was making in 2001. If this keeps...

Problems in a commercial flight by
megaMAX
Hello everybody,
I want to tell you what's happened during a Finnair flight from
Helsinki to Milan, I'm not an expert of flight.
During the entire flight, I noticed that the aircraft was continuosly
rolling to right, and the pilot was correcting every 10-20 seconds the
attitude. I noticed this,...

Kid day at the airport... by
Jay Honeck
Today was "kid day" for us. First, we took a lunch flight with a good
friend and his son and daughter, ages 2 and 4. Then, later in the day, we
did a sight-seeing flight with my 11 year old daughter, and one of her
school friends.
Both flights were outstanding! We had a high overcast here...

Reducing the Accident Rate by

Just got back from the national convention of my type

wonderful people, fun activities, helpful FBO here)
So here's a topic related to Jay's thread "Scary". At
the membership meeting, the club's Safety Director rightly
pointed out...

North Korea's Air Force and The Bomb by

Since I'm tired of reading questions about the development of
anti-matter-powered Beechcraft ejection seats, I thought I'd toss this
topic onto the newsgroup's platter: North Korea.
In pondering why we (the US -- and the World) haven't responded more
forcefully to the North Korean nuclear tests,...

Speaking of D.B. Cooper... by
C J Campbell[_1_]
Seems some guy from Minnesota, Lyle Christansen, is convinced that his
brother Kenny was D.B. Cooper. Kenny Christansen is in fact a dead
ringer for Cooper, was an army paratrooper, bought a house in Buckley,
WA, with cash that he never explained where it came from, and he worked
for Northwest...

Experience Question by

Hello All....
This may sound silly, but I would like to hear some opinions on a matter
presented to me this evening.
I recently got my ticket. I started 5 years ago, and due to certain
circumstances, I had to take 4 1/2 years off, then I picked up and did 10
more hours of training to prep for...

Challenger Crashe at TEB by

It looks like the Challenger skidded off the runway and crashed into a

takeoff in Colorado? It looks like the plane remained intact so
hopefully the passengers and crew are...
