Weather Site by
[email protected]
I haven't read or posted here for awhile, so if this is redundant, I'm
sorry. Couldn't see anything about it in a search.
Very useful soaring weather site:

After the the event was open to registration for 48 hrs I counted 63.
After a week it is at 73 and climbing.
Its in a good place and Bruno and his gang do a great job!
Its great fun. You can fly a...

IS-28B2 Twin Lark shock absorber replacement/rebuild by
[email protected]
My Twin Lark (located in West Virginia) needs its shock absorber repaired/overhauled or replaced (it's fully depleted and a nitrogen re-charge did not help). I've received help from others so far, but welcome additional insight, sources, recommendations, etc. on either repairing or replacing this...

Winch School by
Karl Striedieck[_2_]
The Eagle Field Winch classes for Jul 18-19 and Sep 12 -13 each have an opening for pilots interested in training and endorsements for winch ground launching.
Although most of the pilots who've taken the course will probably not utilize the winch training at their club, the stick and rudder...

Oxygen installation in SZD-55-1 by
Andy Gibson
Can any SZD-55-1 owner give me thedetails of a modification
to install a Mountain High XCP oxygen system with a
647 liter alloy cylinder (133mm dia x 485mm long) in
an SZD-55-1. Preferably the SZD-approved installation
suitable for a EASA gliderin the UK, but this may not
be possible. Is there a...

Ease of attaching and detaching by
01-- Zero One
Kirk has properly pointed up the issue in trying to align 2 pin wings.
I cannot tell you how many even experienced owners still try to install
the pin nearest the helper first. Based on the geometry of the design,
the helper has very little ability to control the alignment on that pin
but can...

Jumpy needle by
Ludovic Launer
Hi
I have a Winter vario, which is works OK, but I find the indication a little
jumpy...
The system is not leaking, but I'd just like to have slightly less "gust"
jumps and a smoother move of the needle.
In my ASW20 there used to be a restriction in the tubing and apparently it
did the job pretty...

Target Fixation by
[email protected]
Military pilots have known about this since World War 1. It happens
when a pilot gets so engrossed in destroying his target that he flies
right into it, can happen in air to air as well as air to ground
operations. Bombing ranges around the country are dotted with little
smoking hiles in the ground...

ASTM standards on light sport aircraft by
Mark James Boyd
Hmmm...the table of contents for this 83 page
publication has gyro, powered parachute, airplane, LTA...
but no gliders...
Sigh...it looks like this opportunity has passed.
It looks like Pipistrel won't be able to get an SLSA
certificate for anything, so no Pipistrel glider rentals...
And so much...

BGA and licensing by
Mark James Boyd
I saw on the BGA website the BGA changed the spin training
requirements. No more required low altitude
spins. Good job, guys. I'm glad they changed it.
I'm over 4000 miles away and I was cringing...
On another note, the site seems to indicate that 20 flights
minimum are required to solo, but...

Winch dangers in general by
Bob Johnson
It wouldn't hurt to repeat this message also -- any location thinking of
going to a winch operation would do well to absorb the lessons in Derek
Piggott's "Ground Launches" book. This 83-page book distills over forty
years of European and British winch experience. The author has had over
10,000...
