Minimum acceptable self-launch climb rate by
Kenz Dale
What's the minimum realistic climb rate that should be acceptable for self-launch? I've heard things like 1:4 ratio of thrust to MTOW (where thrust is approximated as 3x motor/engine power), but planes like the Silent 2 Electro and miniLAK FES seem to exceed this somewhat, with the miniLAK FES...

I am in the market for a first glass ship and both these gliders are
available locally and at my target price range.
I would appreciate any feedback concerning the relative pros and cons
of each.

Android Skew-t app by
kiwiindenver
Hi All,
As a recently licensed pilot I decided it would be a good idea to learn more about soaring weather prediction, specifically the workings of a Skew-t graph.
I combined that with learning more about developing Apps for Android, so yesterday I published by first Android...

A. J. Smith, 1924 - 2004 by
Jack Wyman
The United States and the world soaring community lost a giant in the
history of competition soaring on September 5th 2004, with the passing
of Andrew James Smith. AJ passed away with heart failure at age 80 in
his home in Tecumseh, Michigan. He began soaring in the 1950's with
his close friend...

Nextel paint finish for cockpits by
Simon Waddell
I'm having my glider refinished and the workshop is recommending Nextel
paint for the cockpit. This paint has kind of a soft feel to it. I think
it's used in K21 cockpits and, in black, it's sometimes used for the cover
over the instrument panel since it doesn't reflect light.
Does anyone have...

Will circular runways ever take off? by

I saw this story and it reminded me, has anyone ever tried landing on a curved flat road or something similar to a circular runway?
I supposed the banked sides of this concept help.
BBC story "Will circular runways ever take...

Trailer paint removal by
Chris Davison
Does anyone have experience of removing flaking paint
from the skin of a metal trailer? About 1/3 of the
paint is coming off...I want to strip all the paint
off and preferably leave the metal skin 'bare'. Is
this just 'buy a big can of paint remover and a large
brush' or is it more complicated? ...

Tost E-85 on Tow Plane by
[email protected]
Hello,
We are installing a Tost E-85 tow hitch on a Super Cub. We wrote up a
nice 337 for the Feds. They approved of the bracket we fabricated.
However, they are refusing to sign off on the E-85 hook. Think we've
run into the same Feds who tried to ground Bob Hoover. Anyway, they
are saying...

Pee bag gel by
soaringjac
We have cats and just got a new type of litter for them called SoPhresh Gel Lock. This stuff would be great in a zip lock pee bag! Super absorbent and turns into a gel immediately. I have not tried it in flight yet, but once i saw how this stuff worked i knew it would be great to put in some pee...

Minimum number of flights for winch sign off? by
Waveguru
What would be the consensus for the minimum number of flights to get a ground launch sign off for an experienced glider pilot? How many cable breaks and at what altitude? Of course it would take more for some and less for others, but I would think at least 15 launches with 5 cable breaks at various...
