News reports were that the helicopter was built by the pilot................today, we are reading in the paper (on-line news) the the helicopter was a R-22, hardly a homebuilt.....but here...

iPAQ-310-LK8000-wind calculation by Brad[_2_]
I have my HP-24 set up with the iPAQ 310 and it is running the latest LK8000 software, since the aircraft hasn't flown yet I am curious to know if anyone out there is using this combination and what they have noticed regarding the wind calculation function (not the true wind feature). I am using...

Powerflarm in spring 2011 by Brad[_2_]
I'm curious how many unit will be shipped to the vendors, and if the vendors will prioritize the units as to their use. It may be that the amount of units available outnumber the amount of units pre-sold. If not............... For example: Will powerflarm units going to non-competition pilots...

stab/elevator gap seal question by Brad[_2_]
I've heard that on some sailplanes, putting a mylar gap seal on the top surface can cause handling issues. Anyone care to comment on that? I've added a mylar seal and the safety tape to the top of mine, and it does indeed add a small step just ahead of the elevator, despite my best attempts at...

The new Seattle Sectional came out today and I as I understand it (not seen one yet) the Class B area around Sea-Tac is now different. Does anyone know who or how the .sua files are created, and when/if we may see updates. I am guessing that there may be other changes across the country as...

thanks Soaring Magazine by Brad[_2_]
I provided soaring magazine with dozens of high quality images shot from the ground and from the air of the Tetra-15. First flight was 3 months ago and for some reason the editor has elected to entertain us with pictures of Libelles and other European glass. You would think after 10 years of...

PowerFlarm display by Brad[_2_]
I have the stand-alone unit and have been flying with it for a few months now. I am curious about the display. Is it supposed to show the flarm targets in color, or in black? The manual shows lot's of colorful icons floating across the screen, all I see are black triangles with numbers and...

another gelcoat story by Brad[_2_]
When we made my fuselage, it was winter and we were heating the shop with a propane heater. Propane releases moisture during combustion. So........molds are waxed multiple times, gelcoat (shurfab polyester product) is sprayed into the mold, we leave the heater on and go home for the...

spring trim metrics by Brad[_2_]
I got the mechanism for my trim system sorted out today. I originally had a slider block that traveled along a steel rod, now the slider block is part of the steel rod and the whole assembly travels along oilite bushings, I am very pleased with the smoothness now, previously when actuating the trim...

would an electric sustainer be practical by Brad[_2_]
Just doing some day dreaming..........but why not make a sustainer, capable of climbing out after a short winch/auto/aero tow and finding lift. I think the prop could be smaller, the HP of the engine lower, the battery capacity less. Plus I have just the spot in my Apis to put one! Brad
