WX block and seal question by
Brad[_2_]
Is the stuff in the #2 WX block supposed to be a runny liquid? I was
expecting something a little more like the seal material.............I
almost poured the whole damn bottle on the top of my wing!

Thin Airfoil and Climb Performance by
Brad[_2_]
As a guy who has flown thick airfoil ships and currrently owns a ship
with a 17% airfoil, I am curious what kind of performance in climb I
might see with a 14% airfoil section.
Thanks,
Brad

Libelle 301 flap hookup by
Brad[_2_]
can someone explain how the Libelle H-301 flap control is hooked up at
the fuselage. Or, even better, does someone have any pictures or a
rigging illustration they could e-mail me. How is the flap hinged? is
it center hinged like the H-304 or lower hinged?
Thanks!

Glider Shapes by
Brad[_2_]
This sort of follows up on the future of soaring thread, but is more
focused on the sailplane design aspect.
Ok.....here is the scenario: the powers that be have decided that once
again the soaring community needs a sailplane that represents Joe
Sailplane Pilot. Joe sailplane pilot wants a...

soaring into the future by
Brad[_2_]
I was browsing thru one of the Yahoo glider N.G.'s today and read
where the World Class design may get ressurected. That got me to
thinking:
What would the ideal recreational next generation sailplane sailplane
look like? I imagine it won't look much different from what we are
seeing now in terms...

how do you pronounce Grob? by
[email protected]
I hear most people pronounce Grob with a B on the end. But I dont think
it is actually a B but rather an esset which is a letter in german that
looks like a B but is pronounced as a hard S. So Grob should really be
pronouced Gross.

Calling a Good Task by
Brad Alston
All of this banter about classes, and what's fair or not for a class, leads me to a couple of questions. Now, please understand that I am not a competition pilot so forgive if I sound a bit naive. I have been doing a little online research but don't find a lot of information...or I'm looking in the...

What's up with the Sparrowhawk? by
Brad
Not heard anything lately about the Sparrowhawk. I did hear a rumor
that their chief assembler quit, and there are other bits floating
around that pique the interest.
It's sad if they do/did go "out of business" It was exciting to see
someone with balls finally get a sailplane company started here...

winglets for LS-1 by
Brad
A friend of mine is considering installing winglets on his LS-1C. Has
anyone ever seen or heard of an LS-1 with winglets? Is there a
retro-fit installation for winglets available? I know that the Libelle
has a winglet kit, so perhaps the LS-1 has one too.
Cheers,
Brad

peak oil-kyoto protocol and soaring by
Brad
Is there any correlation between all these subjects? Or can we
blissfully soar away the next few decades?
And I'm talking about all of us, not just the wealthy who don't seem to
mind paying more for fuel.

horiz tail airfoil observations by
Brad
I've been perusing Fred Thomas's Sailplane Design book lately. I am
curious, why do most of the modern sailplanes use a non-symetrical
airfoil for the horiz surface, and most of the "older" sailplanes use a
symetrical airfoil?
I was looking at a Krokus at the Pensacola airshow over the...

Recently our Club, Evergreen Soaring, bought an APIS 13M from Robert

checking out pilots last weekend to fly her. There were about a half
dozen or so of us who got the check out and there were more than
enough smiles to go...
