Tropics Are Heating Up. by
Bob Youngblood
As we get closer to August the tropics are showing those typical late summer cyclone development possibilities. There is one on the horizon for early Sunday, so I guess it is time to put the gliders in the box and store on a secure location. Our club will be securing all gliders and I will take the...

Crazies At The Gliderport by
Bob Youngblood
I recently thought that I had seen it all until someone informed me that a guy was taking his dog for a glider ride. Now please understand I love dogs, have a wonderful Yellow Lab and treat her like our kid. Really never thought dogs and planes went well together, but what in the world would any...

Controlled Fires For Florida. by
Bob Youngblood
The seniors contest is right around the corner and things could be heating up for the weather and soaring conditions. Florida has been very wet during the winter months, usually our dry period. Now that the winds are increasing we seem to be drying out even the swamp areas are now being burned off...

We Didn't Row The Boat Around Lake O !! by
Bob Youngblood
Things are going well here in Florida this week, lots of activity up in Clermont for the Seniors contest. Things down in South Florida are going well also, with a few good flights of our own. Todd Roy and myself both flew around Lake O, our flights were on different days and in opposite directions....

Concealed Carry In MY ASW27 by
Bob Youngblood
What a surprise, just today my son brought me a great gift to fight off the flaming liberals at the gliderport. It is a Bulgarian AK47 with 2000 rounds of ammunition. Thank god that I raised this kid correctly, educated him and he achieved the status of a Structural Engineer, PE.
He advised me to...

What have we learned from all this? by
Bob Youngblood
Interesting situation that we are all faced with the last few weeks, things are more serious than we ever expected. I was having a great discussion last evening with my family member who is an Infectious Disease MD, the discussion was eye opening! This is a game changer, and China has much to blame...

Our New Club Ship Becoming Reality by
Bob Youngblood
Since the start of our club three years ago we have been looking at the possibility of buying a new club ship. We are looking at the ASK21 and the DG1001. Funding has always been difficult, in this small start up environment it is almost impossible to obtain the amount of monies necessary to pull...

INSURANCE, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT by
Bob Youngblood
Recent tragedies will certainly bring insurance rates and coverage into the spotlight once again. IMHO things will change not only in cost but coverage as well. Underwriters cannot continue to pay out high amounts for such a small population of their overall policies. I foresee changes coming to...

Visit From A Great Guy by
Bob Youngblood
Yesterday I landed the Pawnee and noticed a guy standing next to a vehicle speaking with one of our tow pilots. The closer I got I could see that it was a spitting image of one of my late old friends. I could hardly hold back my comments, "you look exactly like your father", it was the son of E9,...

Florida WX by
Bob Youngblood
December is by record our dry month with an average rainfall of 2 inches followed by January and February as our dry season. Far from the average rainfall it has been an extremely unusual wet winter. In December alone we had 5 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. The ground is soaked and the soaring...

Becker by
Bob Youngblood
I made the trip from Vero to Margate today to have my transponder repaired. You always have choices to make about what kind of avionics to buy. Well, I will never buy anything other than Becker. I was greeted at the door by Alejandro and my unit was immediately taken into the test facility for...

Are there any glider guys out there that would be willing to give me a hand in taking the ole girl apart for shipping? I am willing to pay for help and probably all the beer you can drink....

Pawnee gascolator strap needed by
Bob Youngblood
I have been working on getting a Pawnee ready for towing and I need a connector strap and wire fastener for the gascolator. It is the same strap that goes on a Comanche and Pawnee. Let me know if you have one that you can depart with. Bob 772-453-9999

Pawnee Tow Release by
Bob Youngblood
I am currently rebuilding another Pawnee and converting from a spray plane to a tow plane. Extensive work has been completed on this bird, and I am about ready to install the tow hook. This is the third Pawnee that I have converted and I have used the hopper dump handle as the tow release handle...

Rear Seat Scoring by
Bob Youngblood
I happen to be looking at some OLC scoring and noticed that there were rear seat ride along customers scoring flights on OLC as if they were the PIC. Is there any provision for making sure that the ride along is not permitted to score the flight as if they were the primary scoring individual.

Weather Finally Changing by
Bob Youngblood
It is about time, the weather here in South Florida is finally changing, yes fall is upon us and the soaring weather is getting better.
After a dismal summer and an October that was about like July the cooler dry air has made it south. I flew yesterday for about 3 hours and got to about 6K AGL....

Contest Reporting (in "Soaring" mag) by
Bob Whelan[_3_]
WARNIMG: Longish, U.S.-centric post below!!!
OK - It's winter (again, sigh) in my neck of the woods and some recent RAS
posts touching upon contests and the (over-)reporting thereof in "Soaring"
magazine, plus a kinda-sorta related post from "Soaring's" newish-editor, move
me to muse a bit,...
