Water ballast rookie question by Tom Nau
I fly an ASW-28. The under-surface of the wing has a nice little piece of plastic that covers the dump valve and which is hinged by a piece of cloth tape. When flying with water ballast my assumption is that correct procedure is to leave the piece of plastic in place, but open and hanging down from...

PowerFlarm for Rent/Loan for Elmira, U.S.A.? by [email protected]
I'm headed to Elmira in 3 weeks for the Std. Nats and want to know what my options are for getting FLARM equipped. I missed a few seasons so tracked the whole PowerFLARM revolution via RAS. Not excited about buying one just yet. I understand there were some early units for rent at one time....

Experimental category, maintenance, parts, and continuedairworthiness requirements by Paul Villinski
As the owner of a "new" 1985 DG-400, registered Experimental Exhibition/Racing, I'm trying to get a handle on what the FARs require. I have a mercifully short, ten-point set of Operating Limitations issued in 1989. Paragraph 4 states "The cognizant FAA Flight Standards District Office must be...

Pocket PC Training - Free Online Videos by Paul Remde
Hi, A little over 2 years ago I created a series of short training videos for glider pilots related to the use of Pocket PCs. The CD containing all the videos has sold quite well. I have now made low resolution (320 x 240 pixels) versions of all the Pocket PC Training videos available online...

Wind speed and direction by bobcaldwell
Hi pilots, I know this subject has been discussed in the past but I am not sure if this particular issue has come up. I run a CAI 302 which drives both Winpilot Pro and a 303 head. The wind speed and directions are often differing by large margins on these two displays even though they must be...

Handicap bargains by Ian Cant
I notice that a Schweizer 2-32 with a published L/D of 33 is handicapped at 1.500. This seems like a great bargain, the same as a Falke SF-25C at 1.500 but with only about 22 L/D. Are there other equally great deals out there ? Or any outstandingly heavily handicapped types ? Ian

When to best train glider and power? by private
Many people suggest a large benefit for student power pilots to fly some dual in a glider and similarly many parts of successful glider piloting can be more cost effectively learned in a power plane. As an example, it is cheaper to do multiple landings in a power plane when learning to land. Do...
