Diamond goal flight rejected due to typo by
Scott Alexander[_2_]
I received an email stating that my diamond goal flight has been
rejected due to a typo on my igc declaration. Despite the fact that
the security was good, all turnpoints rounded ok, and everything else
good, it's still rejected.
On the IGC declaration where it says "registered ID" I typed in...

Put your money where the risk is by
Bret Hess
The discussion "Gliding risk" has been excellent for the most part. To me the most compelling thoughts are about gradually getting conditioned to taking increasing risks ("normalization of deviance"), that experience is a curse as well as a blessing, and that fatalities are just the apex of a...

Why not jump on the bandwagon... :-)
http://wingsandwheels.com/class/classified.php?id=1231

Pegasus or ....? by
Mike125
I'm looking to move up a level from my ASW 15. Ideally, I'd like an LS
4 but they are few and far between. A couple of Pegasuses (Pegasi?)
are listed on W&W and seem to be reasonably priced for what you get. I
am in the US and am aware of the 3000 hr issue but don't fly enough
for that to be a...

I fly the Carat Motorglider by
David Bingham
Hi Gang
I had not expected to be offered the opportunity to fly the
first Carat delivered in the US. But I did today and I really
liked what I found. This is my report.
Supposing you wanted to come up with a wish list of the
characteristics of an ideal self powered glider for use from
the...

Becker vs Microair by
Dixie Sierra
I've decided to give up on my Avionic Dittel and buy new. It's been a
good radio and has given many years of service, but I'd like some new
functionality.
Functionality is really at the heart of my dilemna. I've kind of
narrowed things down to Becker vs Microair (I've ruled out Walter
Dittel on...

Battery Source by
Mike the Strike
I am looking for a US source for a rechargeable (preferably gel or
sealed lead-acid) for the fin battery box of a Schempp-Hirth. I need
the extra power as well as the tail weight! Dimensions are
approximately 10 inches long, 4 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches deep.
I've found a few single-cell...

Futuristic sailplane on December 1967 Soaring cover by
John White
I've been fascinated by this unusual image on the cover of Soaring
magazine:
http://soaringweb.org/Soaring_Index/1967/1967Dec_full.jpg
I always assumed it was a reaction to the movie 2001 since it bears a
distinct resemblance to the spaceplane in that movie, but recently
realised that it...

Longest glider flight by
[email protected]
Sorry, I meant to change the subject line.
So, what was the longest (in time) glider flight, and is there any
official body that recognizes such records.

Bad publicity by
David Starer
I just searched on "glider" on the BBC's news web site. What I found shocked
me. Of 46 results returned for the period since May 1998, not a single one
mentioned any form of achievement whatsoever in gliding. See here for the
search...

soaring into the future by
Brad[_2_]
I was browsing thru one of the Yahoo glider N.G.'s today and read
where the World Class design may get ressurected. That got me to
thinking:
What would the ideal recreational next generation sailplane sailplane
look like? I imagine it won't look much different from what we are
seeing now in terms...

Transponder antenna - blade vs stub monopole by
5Z
Any aerodynamic thoughts on the two available choices?
My ASH-26E came with the stub mounted just behind the wheel. Every
now and then it catches on the trailer, so I just straighten it, no
big deal.
An ASW-24B in our club is about to get a transponder and the factory
recommends the installation...

Now that I am retired I have decided to live a little before its to late....no more I will do X Y and Z NEXT YEAR. I first went solo in a glider at the Midland Gliding club in 1976 and then solo on power the same year. Power flying quickly lost its attraction and I didnt complete my...
