Junior Team calendars by
[email protected]
Got my Junior Team Calendars. They look great! Every bit as good as
the SSA ones and no shots of a 2-33.
The are printed on quality paper, and I think a bit more artfully done
than the SSA ones, (just my opinion, but feel free to flame away.)
The most important thing about the Junior Team...

Sundance Aviation, in conjunction with the Albuquerque Soaring Club, will conduct a cross-country soaring camp from June 1st through June 15th. The OLC by
[email protected]
THE OLC
I'm of the opinion that the OLC is the best thing that has happened to cross country flying since the advent of the GPS data logger. Having said that, who are these guys any way? Let's start with Ken Sorenson from Houston. This guy is a one man club and it looks like he has racked up...

The near mid-air at the Region 9 contest by
[email protected]
During the course of our regional at Moriarty we had a very close encounter....something on the order of seven feet. One of the two pilots involved made a comment on twenty three point three regarding the manner in which the other pilot had entered the thermal. That evening our CD Tom Kelly...

Hard Water Deposits by
[email protected]
The only negative thing I can think about when flying from Moriarty,
NM is that unless you want to spend big bucks on distilled water, you
have to use the local stuff which leaves hard water deposits on the
glider.
Does anyone have any good solutions, (yes, pun intended) for this
problem?

The Un-Sung Hero of Parawan by
[email protected]
OK, so un-sung hero may be a bit strong, but I thought Tom Kelly did
an excellent job of getting the Region nine contest off the ground.
Although I might have missed the cudos he was given during the awards
dinner, I don't recall anyone singling him out.
The low stress, (as low stress as a contest...

Trailering and rigging tools by
[email protected]
A friend from Tucson showed up at Fidel's shop for some work on his Discus2b and it was discovered that the black plastic tool that fits into the end of the wing tip for both rigging as well as trailering had broken in two. I examined the ones I have for my Discus and discovered evidence of...

Perhaps by now you have read SOARING editor Eric Bick's statement regarding the start of a new department entitled CFI-G Corner. On page thirty-eight is an article I wrote along the lines of teaching techniques or perhaps different ways of presenting safety related information,...

Wanted - Water ballast adjustment Screw LS-3a by
[email protected]
In an effort to get "Big Ugly's" water ballast system working
correctly I was hoping one of you might have the dump adjustment screw
from the ballast rocker. I only need one and prefer not to spend 500
Euros on a service contract. This is for an LS-3a, but they are the
same on many LS's and I...

Non-discrete transponder codes for gliders by
zulu
Rumor has (had), it that the Feds were about to authorize a nation
wide non-discrete transponder code for gliders which was to be 0000 in
lieu of the current VFR squawk of 1200. Does anyone know anything
about this or is this just another pipe dream?

Help Needed: LXNAV S80 and Remote Stick grip by
ZP
I have an S80 and just installed the remote stick. Everything is working fine except the sc glide/climb momentary switch. Pressing it cycles through the menus as if it is wired together with the 'enter' button. It doesn't change between climb and cruise modes as expected. I have auto-switching...

Anyone need 4 lug trailer wheels? by
ZP
I had to replace the axle on my Komet trailer. I now have 5 lug wheels on it. The old 13in 4-lug wheels are available (3 wheels, no tires). They are in good shape, no rust, fresh white paint on two of the wheels. Southern California.

LXNav S80 landing gear voice warning not working by
ZP
I hooked up reed sensors from my spoilers and landing gear to the S80 expecting to get voice warning but it isn't working. I know it is hooked up right because the hardware page displays the sensed positions. Gear up = red, gear down = green. Spoilers retracted = green, Spoilers open = red. ...

LXNav S80 latest firmware by
ZP
I loaded the latest firmware and got a peculiar issue. The numbers around the vario rosette are not displayed when the units are US or English. They display fine in metric units. I reloaded it twice and got the same result.. Anyone seen this problem but me?
