THIS is the cockpit display tech we need by
Bill D
http://rdd.me/ryoliosm I doesn't matter how 'smart' our gadgets are
if you can't read the damn screens with a quick glance. Qualcom's
Mirasol display looks like a magazine cover in direct sunlight.

Blanik L-13 polar by
BTIZ
I have not seen any polar for the L-13 other than the one in the factory
manual POH. It does not reference the flap positions.
I have flown the L-13 and the L-23 (no flap)
For the L-13, the flaps do lower landing speed and the angle of the fuselage
on approach which affects the AOA of the wing. I...

Truck vs Car as a tow vehicle by
Chris Behm
I am wondering how often a truck for towing a glider trailer might be an advantage? I have yet to buy my first glider, but of course and thinking that the next vehicle I purchase should be a good one to tow with (Incidentally, thinking of the GMC/Chevy Canyon/Colorado, with the 2.8L inline 4...

Super Cub towplane performance by
Marc Arsenault
Well, we finally discovered that the propeller was totally worn out. We took
the prop to our local Sensenich dealer-repairshop.
The very helpful people of BL Aviation took no more than 15 minutes on the
prop stand to measure out the defective "windmill". Actually, the
measurement were quite...

FAA Exemption Letter (USA) by
Bob 7U
I haven't heard anything in a few years about the requirement to carry
an FAA Exemption letter in the cockpit. Is it still a requirement or
has common sense prevailed?
The latest info I could find on the SSA web site only extends the
exemption until October 2008.
Thanks,
Bob 7U

Bowlus & Nelson Bumble Bee powered glider questions by
soon2bexpat
I have a 16mm home movie showing a test flight of the Bumble Bee at
Rosamond Dry Lake in 1945. I need help with 2 things:
1) I would imagine that Bowlus and Nelson are part of this movie but I
can't find a photograph of either of these guys so that I can ID them.
Does anyone know where there is a...

Is anyone still interested in CuSoft "Polar Explorer" program for PC? by
Branko Stojkovic
Hello,
Sme 10 years ago I wrote a program for DOS named "Polar Explorer" - designed
for analyzing both theoretical and practical aspects of glider performance
in any conditions. The program was advertised in the Soaring magazine for a
couple of years by CuSoft Research Inc., and some 30 odd copies...

Gear Warning by

I had gotten an almost brand new (12 hrs) Genesis 2.
My experience with retractable landing gear was somewhat
limited. At the end of my sixth flight I crossed the
field to check on traffic and turned into the pattern.
I announced my downwind and started my landing checklist.
Just as was about to...

Glider Purchase Procedure - Annual & Pre Purchase Inspection? by
NMD
Hello,
I am closing in on my first glider purchase and have narrowed it down to three.
What is a safe purchase procedure for an older glider? Two are LS3's and one is an LS3A. All have been refinished in PU.
Is a new annual sufficient or it is advisable to have a pre-purchase inspection as...

Anyone wish to weigh in on the L-33 solo? I am in the market for a single seater. Metal is preferred because you can tie it down outside without the problems associated with glass. 1-34's are hard to find, not a lot of metal ships on the market these days it seems.
Can anyone speak to the...
