Preliminary planning for AK flight by
[email protected]
Hey all... I saw the other post on a "long x-c" and figured I'd throw this in
for thought (and not hijack his thread). One of my plane partners and I are planning
to fly to Alaska this upcoming summer. I'm from there, and have driven the Alaska
highway a number of times, but he's never been...

Altnerator and landing light by
Robert M. Gary
I have a 70amp alternator in my Mooney. I find that when I turn on the
landing light, the voltage drops down to around 13.0 volts or less.
During off the landing light brings it back to 14.5 volts. The Mooney
Factory Service Center is telling me this is normal. They said Mooney
didn't design the...

PIREP on Lumanair aviation, Aurora municipal (ARR) by
Jack Allison
Any Pireps on the Piper service center, Lumanair Aviation Services at
Aurora Municipal airport? I'm pursuing an Arrow in that area and
considering them for the pre-buy.
Any other A&P/shop recommendations welcome as well
Thanks!

Archer Cowl needs work - Advice? by
Bob Chilcoat
We have a '74 PA-28-180 - the first year this model was called an "Archer".
The cowl is not in the greatest shape, partly because of its age, and partly
because one of the partners a few years ago landed on a runway that was
about 18" too short and slid gently into the chain link fence at the...

GDC31 by
Mike Granby
Anyone have any experience of this device? It's a roll steer unit that
will couple many GPS units to many autopilots, getting over the
Garmin/STEC requirements for this technology. I'm thinking of putting
one in my Saratoga, and wondered if anyone had fitted one to their
birds, or if they'd used...

Electrical issue by
Jimmy B.
As some of you know, I'm plane sitting for a friend. It is a 1983
172RG. Over the past couple of weeks, it seems to have picked up an
electrical issue. Occasionally, the "low voltage" light will flicker.
So far, I've seen this happen 3 times in about 5 weeks. Once, I
happened to be looking at...

Light Sport Aircraft for Private Pilots (Long) by
Jimbob
Hi all.
I'm a current student pilot(PPSEL) and I have been reading up on the
new sport pilot/LSA stuff that has come about. My interest, like most
potential pilots, is to eventually own an aircraft, but that will be
several years down the road. However, the new Light Sport Aircraft
class caught...

IFR GPS certification by
nobody
Sorry about the x-post but didn't know where to ask the question.
I guess I've been living under a rock. I wanted to update the VFR GPS in
the panel to an IFR model. I started getting quotes on recon GNC 300XLs.
The units themselves were about 2,500-3,000. I was shocked to find out that
I had...

Problem using Thunderbird for newsgroups ?? by
Montblack
I'm using Mozilla/Firefox instead of M$ Internet Explorer. I've also
switched over to (free) Thunderbird, from using M$ Outlook Express 6.0. (So
far I'm OK-happy with this combination)
I've been reading these newsgroups with Outlook Express since 1998. I'm
familiar with it and I like it. Comfort...

Oshkosh questions by
Jimmy B.
I'm thinking of making my first trip to Oshkosh this year.
How far in advance do I have to plan this? For example, how quickly do
the local hotels fill up? (Haven't made up my mind if I will camp or do
the hotel thing.)
Do I need a reservation to park the airplane? If so, how quickly do
they...

Backlighting/Dimmer Switch Fun -- Cherokee 140 by
[email protected]
I have been experiencing an odd problem with my digital EGT/CHT gauge.
The backlighting on the guage is controlled by the panel light dimmer
potentiometer (or rheostat, which ever it is). When the dimmer switch
is off, the gauge works fine. Once I turn the dimmer past the click,
the instrument...
